PROCLAMA TION
the State of Florida is dedicated to improving air quality, improving health and physical fitness, and
reducing energy consumption: and,
the participating local businesses and governments of Collier County, in cooperation with Callier Area
Transit (CAT) and the Flarida Department of Transportation, District Ones (FDOT) Commuter Services
Program, contribute to these state goals by reducing traffic congestion and lowering greenhause gas
emissions throughout Collier County, by promoting the use of olternative commute modes: and,
participating local businesses and governments of Collier County, CA T and FDOT Commuter Services, have
joined together as part of outreach activities to shift commuters away from drive-alone travel by hosting
a county-wide "Taking it to the Streets" campaign and supporting individual events and activities
throughout Collier County: and,
"Taking it to the Streets" is a regional campaign to support and engage in activities that promote
alternative forms of transportation. We further support public transportation and other forms of
alternative transportation and recognize "Taking it to the Streets" participants by encouraging them to
utl'lize FDOT Commuter Services' new "Trip Track" program to document trips made by carpool, transit,
bicycle and other alternative modes of travel. Each trip tracked can be quantified according to individual
savings in dollars, pounds of pollutants, vehicle miles of travel and other features: and,
CAT currently provides regularly-scheduled bus service and commuter bus service to employment, medica'-
retail and government centers throughout Collier County: and
Collier County participating local businesses and governments, CA T and FDOT Commuter Services are
promoting increased interest in alternative travel options due to unstable gas prices, current economic
conditions and concerns about climate change: and,
Collier County participating local businesses and governments, CAT and FDOT Commuter Services wi'll be
hosting a "Taking it to the Streets" campaign, during which the public wi'll be encouraged to try
alternative forms of transportation and CA T transit services to work, school, shopping, or play: and,
NOW THEREFORE- be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that Wednesday,
Aprl'l 13 through Saturday, April 23, 2011, be designated as "Taking it to the Streets SWFL"
participation week, and Tuesday, April 19, 2011 be designated as "Try Transit Day" and encourage the
people of Collier County to utilize alternatives to drive-alone commuting and to track individual savings in
dollars, pounds of pollutants, and vehicle miles of travel as participants in the "Taking it to the Streets"
challenge.
