Roll call conducted at 10 Am.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jaskiewicz stating with no quorum meeting will be for
open discussion.
Rick Zororski was assigned to take minutes.
Barry Gerenstein led the pledge of allegiance.
Chairman Jaskiewicz noted that the previous meeting’s minutes did not note the presence of a quorum
and that as there was no January meeting there are no minutes to approve.
New Business:
Walt Jaskiewicz announced that he is concerned about the lack of attendance of voting members and
would like to continue to solicit for new members.
Reg Buxton sent word that he would like members to consider changing meeting days to something
other than Wednesdays. The group agreed to change the next meeting date to Tuesday, May 15 2018
starting at 10AM.
Individual Reports:
Rick Zyvoloski reported that the next LMS meeting will Thursday, March 29 at the ESC.
Kathleen Marr reported that the DoH – Collier County responded to staff ESF-8 (Health and Medical) and
the special needs shelter activation at Palmetto Ridge HS for a period of 2 weeks. The Collier County
Medical Reserve Corps activated 1 volunteer chaplain who responded to the special needs shelter to
provide spiritual support to those in need.
Al Goodall reviewed the American Red Cross response to Hurricane Irma and discussed the outcome of
after action meetings. He also discussed the ARC response to both the Parkland HS shooting and the
Florida International University bridge collapse.
Barry Gerenstein reported that following IRMA, North Collier FD members conducted community
damage assessments and that Verona Walk CERT had 10 members who performed house-to-house visits
and discussed barbecue grill and generator safety with residents.
The National CERT conference will be held from August 20-25 at the Naples Beach Hotel. The event will
include courses, vendor displays and a full-scale drill.
Barry and CERT members are perpetually attempting to recruit new members and create new teams.
Major Richard Farmer of the Marco Island Civil Air Patrol replaced Lee Burman and will apply as
representative. Major Farmer reported that Irma destroyed their hangar and rebuilding is in progress.
He noted that the Marco and Naples squadrons both have planes available to assist in taking photos of
any damage resulting from wildfires. Marco CAP also sent a plane to Puerto Rico with a photographer a
week after Irma to take photographs for FEMA. CAP also has a plane, pilots and photographers available
to help track fires in southern Florida, freeing up monies from other agencies for training, etc.
Walter Jaskiewicz USCG Auxiliary reported the AMROS Team Auxiliary Mass Rescue Operations Specialist
(10) members were dispatched To Houston for the flooding for (2) weeks. USCG Rescue 21 System
Towers down in Irma; Auxiliary Flotilla 95 Marco stayed operating 24/7 with their emergency radios
system to receive distress radio calls. USCG Station Fort Myers EOC Staff was quickly given a WebEOC
Brief Course to handle staffing by Walter.
Chairman Jaskiewicz feels a newspaper ad for new members should be addressed by the County.
The meeting adjourned at 11:00am.
The next meeting is May 15, 2018 at 10:00AM in the policy room of the ESC.
