PROCLAMATION
V 114EREAS, The 6uada/upe Center was established thirty years ago to serve the impoverished
community of Immoka/ee; and,
WHEREAS, the non - profit organization has grown from a small soup kitchen and clothing distribution
service for farm workers and their families to a successful comprehensive program
working to break the cycle of poverty through education; and,
WHEREAS, the 6uada/upe Center has helped at -risk students achieve a record - breaking percentage
of high school graduation and college acceptance rates through its innovative Early
Childhood Education program, 6uada/upe Afterschoo/ Program (6 -A -P), high school Tutor
Corps and community mentoring programs, • and,
WHEREAS, 100 percent of its Tutor Corps students have graduated high school, many the first in
their families to do so, and,
WHEREAS, 93 percent of the Tutor Corps students who enter college as freshman graduate from
college, surpassing the national average, and,
WHEREAS, the Guadalupe Center of Immoka/ee has inspired leaders in the Collier County community
to become mentors to motivated and high- achieving students living in the pain of poverty;
and,
WHEREAS, as it celebrates its 30* . year of service, the staff and volunteers of the 6uada/upe
Center remain steadfast in the mission to break the cycle of poverty in Immoka/ee for
the next generation and continues to touch the hearts of so many Collier County citizens
whose support helps achieve this goal.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida,
that December 2012 be designated as
6UADALUPE CENTER OF IMMOKALEE MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 11 th Day of December, 2012,
