PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the mission of the Collier County Sheriff's Office is to protect
the life, property and Constitutional guarantees of all persons
within Collier County;
WHEREAS, the identification and removal of criminals from the law abiding
population increases the safety of those in Collier County;
WHEREAS, the current partnership between the Collier County Sheriff's
Office and the Department of Homeland Security known as
"287g"allows the Sheriff's office to identify, arrest and prepare
removal documentation for those criminals who are illegally
present within the United States or subject to removal from the
United States;
WHEREAS, to date, the Collier County Sheriff's Office, under the 287g
program, has prepared for removal over 4000 individuals who are
responsible for the commission of over 27,000 crimes committed
in the United States;
WHEREAS, the removal of a significant portion of the repeat criminal
offenders in Collier County has reduced the average daily jail
population to a level allowing the temporary closing of the
Immokalee jail housing facility resulting in significant reduction in
the cost of housing inmates within collier County;

WHEREAS, the reduction in inmate population preserves existing jail
capacity, thereby deferring the need to invest millions of dollars
for additional jail space;
WHEREAS, this partnership between local law enforcement and federal law
enforcement serves to bolster security and increase the safety
of the public
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of
Collier County, Florida, that the Board fully supports the
continuing relationship between the Collier County Sheriff's
Office and the Department of Homeland Security under the
787g"program.
