Subject: Productivity Committee Meetings
8/30/2012
I regret that we could not field a quorum needed to hold a meeting yesterday. Our reduced numbers
make it difficult for us to respond, appropriately, to significant projects like the Purchasing Study now
underway. I do not see how we can be prepared to make meaningful recommendations concerning
changes in purchasing policies under the timetable now in place
Then there is the question of the changing composition of the Board of County Commissioners and
the uncertain priorities that may arise after the new Commissioner is seated and the Board gets down
to business. Obviously our work would be more fruitful if we knew in advance that the subject to be
studied is of interest to the Board. We know that our enabling ordinance does not require the prior
permission of the Board to study a given topic, however we could be waisting our time investigating
things where there is little likihood that the Board will take action on our recommendations.
Accordingly, I suggest to my fellow Productivity Members that we suspend meetings for the next
several months while we await direction from the new Board and solicit high quality candidates to fill
our ranks.
If this is acceptable to our members, I would ask our Liaison to make the other Commissioners aware
of our decision.
