EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
COMMISSIONER REQUEST FOR BOARD APPROVAL FOR PAYMENT TO
ATTEND FUNCTION SERVING A VALID PUBLIC PURPOSE
OBJECTIVE: For the Board of County Commissioners to declare a valid public
purpose for a Commissioner to attend a function/event and approve payment by the
Clerk.
CONSIDERATIONS: Pursuant to Resolution No. 99 -410, the Board of County
Commissioners has determined that attendance at the functions of fraternal, business,
environmental, educational, charitable, social, professional, trade, homeowners, ethnic,
and civic association /organizations serves a valid public purpose, provided that said
functions reasonably relate to Collier County matters.
COMMISSIONER: Donna Fiala
FUNCTION/EVENT: The Leadership Marco program.
PUBLIC PURPOSE: To build a network of community leaders who will utilize their
diverse talents to address community -wide challenges.
DATE OF FUNCTION/EVENT: July 25, 2012 — January 13, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT: $500.00 - Funds to be paid from Commissioner's travel budget.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners, in accordance with
Resolution No. 99 -410, approve payment by the Clerk for Commissioner Donna Fiala to
attend a function serving a valid public purpose.

Your name has been submitted by Leadership Marco Alumni as a possible candidate for
the Class of 2012. If you are interested in participating in the program, the enclosed
application must be sent to the Chamber office no later than May 14, 2012, in order to be
reviewed by the selection committee. Type or print clearly on the application.
This is the eleventh year for the Marco Island Are Chamber of Commerce Leadership
Marco program. It is dedicated to building a network of community leaders who will
utilize their diverse talents, skills, and unique perspectives to address community -wide
challenges, identify viable alternatives, and help solve problems facing the City of Marco
Island today and in the future.
The Leadership Marco program is a ten - session commitment that will meet from
August 8`h until December 5`h. The program will begin with a Kickoff/ Team Building
and cocktail reception on July 25`h, and end with a graduation ceremony during the
Chamber of commerce Installation Dinner on January 13, 2013. The cost for Leadership
Marco is $500 which includes continental breakfast, lunch, Leadership Marco golf shirt,
materials and badge.
Session areas will include: History/Real Estate; Law Enforcement; Health Care/ Fire &
Rescue; Media; Youth/Education; Hospitality; Tourism/CultureNolunteerism;
Transportation /Infrastructure/Environment; and Government /Growth Management/Parks
and Recreation.
As attendance is mandatory, please review the dates and make your plans accordingly. If
