Agenda 04/24/2012 Item #16F24/24/2012 Item 165.2.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve the submittal and authorize the Chairman to sign a Volunteer
Fire Assistance Grant Application to the Florida Division of Forestry for equipment to
combat brush fires.
OBJECTIVE: To receive approval from the Board of County Commissioners to submit a
Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Application to the Florida Division of Forestry to fund the
purchase of a skid unit.
CONSIDERATIONS: Isles of Capri Fire Rescue District has received this Volunteer Fire
Assistance grant from the Division of Forestry in past years, including $4,680 awarded in 2011
and $2,721 awarded in 2009. In past years this grant has been used to purchase protective
clothing, firefighting foam, and VHF radios. This year grant funds will be used for the purchase
of a portable skid unit consisting of a tank, pump, and hose reel to be mounted on the back of the
Department's F -250 to be used to fight brush fires. The Department's 1997 H -1 Hummer brush
truck is out of service and scheduled for auction.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of the skid unit is $9,800. As this is a 50150 matching grant,
the Division of Forestry will pay $4,900 leaving the Isles of Capri Fire Rescue District to provide
$4,900 from Reserves Fund 144 (Isles of Capri Fire Rescue). If awarded, a subsequent item will
be brought before the Board to accept the grant and authorize the necessary budget amendments.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney's Office,
requires majority vote, and it is legally sufficient for Board action. — CMG
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact resulting from
this action.
RECOMMENDATION: To receive approval to submit and authorize the Chairman to sign a
Florida Division of Forestry Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Application.
