PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, correctional officers have the challenging and often dangerous assignment of
ensuring the custody, safety and welfare of more than 2.3 million inmates in
our nation's prisons, jails, mental health, and juvenile facilities; and,
WHEREAS, the correctional officer position is vital to the day-to-day operations of
these institutions and without them it would be impossible to achieve the
foremost institutional goals of security and control; and,
WHEREAS, correctional officers of the Collier County Sheriff's Office are well-trained
professional deputy sheriffs; and,
WHEREAS, the duties of the correctional officers of the Collier County Sheriff's Office
have become increasingly complex and demanding, including being called upon
to simultaneously fill custodial, supervisory and counseling roles; and,
WHEREAS, the professionalism, dedication and courage exhibited by these correctional
officers through the performance of these demanding and often conflicting
roles deserve our utmost respect; and,
WHEREAS, the essential work of these Collier County Deputy Sheriffs is honored, and
the many contributions and accomplishments of these men and women are
crucial components of the field of corrections.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that May 6 through May 12, 2018, be designated as
NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS WEEK
IN COLLIER COUNTY
