Agenda 05/08/2018 Item #16D1105/08/2018
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to authorize Budget Amendments totaling $233,000 transferring funds from
existing Unincorporated Area General Fund (111) budgets to expedite repairs to the Kiddy Pool
feature at the Golden Gate Aquatic Center.
OBJECTIVE: To expedite repairs of the kiddy pool at the Golden Gate Aquatic Center.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Golden Gate Aquatic Center “kiddy pool” is currently closed to public use
pending needed replacement of concrete slabs and pool resurfacing. The pool underwent concrete work
this past winter to replace cracked slabs in and around the pool, but still need to be resurfaced to comply
with State and Collier County Health Department regulations. The pool is used by toddlers up to five (5)
years of age and is the only area water feature specifically designated for children of this age group.
Due to Hurricane Irma, concrete slab replacement and the awarding of a pool contractor for resurfacing
was delayed several months. Staff has obtained estimates of $246,000 for the resurfacing tasks and pool
feature repairs. After accounting for the aforementioned concrete repairs and other planned work, the
remaining funds currently budgeted for this purpose total $13,000 necessitating additional funding of
$233,000. Staff desires to start and finish the work before the summer season.
To proceed in a timely manner with these critical repairs funding will be made available from within
existing Community Parks & Other G&A budgets in Unincorporated Area General Fund (111).
FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment is needed reducing Parks operating budget by $165,000 and
reducing Other G&A by $68,000 in the Unincorparated General Fund (111) to fund the repairs to the
Golden Gate Aquatic Center kiddy pool (project 80406) in the Parks Capital Fund (306).
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This Item is approved as to form and legality and requires majority vote
for Board approval. -JAK
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: This project meets current Growth Management Plan
standards to ensure the viability of public facilities.
RECOMMENDATION: To authorize Budget Amendments totaling $233,000, transferring funds from
existing Unincorporated Area General Fund (111) budgets to Parks Capital Improvement Fund (306),
Project 80406 to complete urgent repairs of water features at the Golden Gate Aquatic Center.
