PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to
provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the
world; and,
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University, January 13,
.1913 by 22 collegiate women, over 100 years ago. Since its founding, more than 200,000 women
have joined the organization; and,
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a sisterhood of predominately Black, college educated women.
The sorority currently has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United
States, England, Japan, Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica and the
Republic of Korea; and,
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. celebrated its 100 year anniversary commencing January 13,
2013 during Founders Day in Washington, DC on the campus of Howard University and ending with
its 51s' National Convention, July 11 - 18, 2013, also held in Washington, DC under the
presidency of Cynthia M.A. Butler McIntyre and now the current presidency of Dr. Paulette C.
Walker; and,
WHEREAS, on October 26, 2013, the Collier County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
was chartered with twenty-five women of Collier County affixing their names to charter 1028 at
Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church; and,
WHEREAS, signatures on the charter are the following: Cynthia Battle, Della Bradley, Michelle Brice, Doris
Cotton, Rhonda Cummings, Sandra Fulton, Diane Haynes, Darlene Jackson, Debra Johnson, Thelma
Johnson, Wilmede Joseph, Rosetta Kirk, Tonge Lawson, Crystal Moody, Jenise Morgan, Carolyn
Perry, Mildred Pitts, Cynthia Powers, Christine Rahmings, Alana Smith, Pamela Wilkins, Jennifer
Williams, Michelle Williams, Shirley Williams, Rozalyne Wright; and,
WHEREAS, the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. are a sisterhood called to serve and are
committed to the major programs of the organization's Five Point Programmatic Thrust that
includes, Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and
Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness and Involvement; and,
WHEREAS, this is the first national black professional women's organization to be chartered in Collier County,
making this a historical moment to be recognized by the citizens of Collier County.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the
Collier County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered in Collier
County, October 26, 2013.
