AHEREAS, Collier County is renowned for its locally grown organic food and for the local
artisan/ restaurants that serve nutritionally prepared local organic food, creating
a cowction between people and their food sources, from the farmer to the chef,
and,
WHEREAS, local organic farms, as stewards of our precious natural resources, grow organic
produce of an unsurpassed qua lity within our regional foodshed that is fresher and
better tasting than food that has been trucked in from hundreds of miles away,
such local farms include Oakes Farms, Inyoni Farms and Wi /d Heritage Farms,
and,
WHEREAS, locally grow awyanic food supports ouf- economy, as money spent with local
farmers and restaurants stays close to home, circulating within in the community;
and,
WHEREAS, Oakes Farms, family awned since 1076, utilizes a "Seed to Tab /e" concept, using
the highest standards of otyanic growing at their farm in eastern Collier County,
their marketplace at 2205 Davis Blvd, and at the Food d Thought caM and
general store at 2132 Tamiarmi Trail Akrth, with a noble goal to 'make evrryax
who works here and shops here happier, healthier and more self-reliant. " and,
WHEREAS, The Local is a family owned restawant located at 5323 Airport-Pulling Road,
Nap /es, with o unique 'farm and Sea to Tab /e" concept, proud ly serving locally
grown organic produce; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners supports the economic success of /oca/ organic
forms and artisan/ restaurants, recognizing that they enhance our qua lity of life,
play a key role in emoting a heaftMer community and that buying locally grown and
served foods ensures that these businesses continue to thr m.
NOW THEREFORE, be it prw1aimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that November 2013 be designated as
LOCAL 0R6ANIC FOOD MONTH
