PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, domestic violence permeates the lives and compromises the safety of thousands
of Collier County citizens with tragic, destructive and sometimes fatal results;
and,
WHEREAS, the problems of domestic violence are not confined to any one group of people,
but affect people across all economic strata, race and ethnicity, sexual
orientation, culture and society, and are supported by societal indifference;
and,
WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an individual's privacy, dignity, security
and humanity due to systemic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological,
and economic control and/or abuse; and,
WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide-ranging, directly affecting women, men,
children and society as a whole; and,
WHEREAS, The Shelter for Abused Women d Children has provided support, safety, and
advocacy to over 63,000 domestic violence survivors and their children since
1989; and
WHEREAS, Collier County is committed to taking a firm stand against domestic violence and
will remain focused on ensuring that all Collier County residents are safe in their
homes and abusers are held accountable for their crimes.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that October 2013 be designated as
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 8th Day of October, 2013.
