PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Collier County is home to more than 113,000 adults age 60 and over who enrich
and strengthen our community; and,
WHEREAS, The Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida is committed to engaging and
supporting older adults, their families, and caregivers in Collier County and
across Southwest Florida; and,
WHEREAS, Older Americans Month is led by the Administration for Community Living's
Administration on Aging, and is celebrated across the country by individuals,
organizations and municipalities to improve the quality of life for older adults;
and,
WHEREAS, the 2018 theme for Older Americans Month is "Engage at Every Age," and
emphasizes the importance of being active and involved in every phase of life;
and,
WHEREAS, Collier County acknowledges the importance of taking part in activities that
promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being—no matter your age; and,
WHEREAS, the people of Collier County can enrich the lives of individuals of every age by
promoting home- and community-based services that support independent living;
and involving older adults in community planning, events, and other activities;
and providing opportunities for older adults to work, volunteer, learn, lead, and
mentor.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that May 2018 be designated as
OLDER AMERICANS MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 24th Day of April 2018.
