Agenda 07/09/2013 Item # 5A 7/9/2013 5.A. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to recognize Sonja Sweet, Benefits Analyst, Risk Management, as the Employee of the Month for June 2013. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the Employee of the Month program is to recognize the efforts and accomplishments of employees who have made significant contributions to the organization and to our community. CONSIDERATIONS: Sonja Sweet, Benefits Analyst has been nominated as the "Employee of the Month" for June 2013. Sonja, an employee of the County since 2007, works for the Risk Management Department, Administrative Services Division. Sonja has been instrumental in working with Allegiance Benefit Plan Management to guarantee that the County is compliant as the new laws under The Affordable Care Act go into effect. She has also been closely involved with IT, testing new reports that will be implemented January 2014. While the Benefits Manager was out on leave, Sonja took on the responsibility of resolving a major Express Script issue when the County's account was moved to a new platform; it took many hours to correct the members' drug accounts to ensure they had proper access to prescription services without interruption. She was recently responsible for reviewing the Life & Short/Long term Disability RFP to assure all the needs of the benefits area were addressed prior to the August 1, 2013 effective date. Additionally, Sonja is tasked with administration of the benefits portion of New Employee Orientation. When new employees join the county, if their hire date does not coincide with the regularly scheduled monthly orientation, she will meet with them one on one, to review options, answer any questions, and enroll them in the County benefit plans, so their pay check deductions will not be in arrears. Sonja is a self starter, and takes a personal interest in assisting staff in resolving their benefits issues. Her outstanding customer service skills and commitment to the employees of Collier County are just a couple of the reasons she is deserving of the Employee of the Month Award. FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award. Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this Executive Summary. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of Sonja Sweet as "Employee of the Month" for June 2013.
