EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Brenda Reaves, Contracts Technician, Purchasing Department, as
the Employee of the Month for March 2013.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the Employee of the Month program is to recognize the efforts
and accomplishments of employees who have made significant contributions to the organization
and to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Brenda Reaves, Contracts Technician has been nominated as the
"Employee of the Month" for March 2013. Brenda, an employee of the County for more than
eight years, works for the Purchasing Department in the Administrative Services Division.
As a Contracts Technician, Brenda is primarily responsible for providing support during the
solicitation process, monitoring contract expirations and coordinating renewals. She is the
Subject Matter Expert for the design, testing and implementation of the Sire Insurance records
retention system, with more than 1,000 insurance records categorized to date. She has
independently facilitated formal and informal Bernie (current Vendor Feedback System) training
for operating departments, and has provided cross training on key business processes with
new /junior staff members (i.e. contract renewal process, insurance process and SAP contract
entry process.)
Brenda is considered the "go -to" person in the office and she is always available to offer
assistance and guidance to the public and to County staff. She always goes above and beyond
what is expected. Some examples of this include volunteering to help organize the annual
Purchasing Open House and compiling and presenting the monthly Purchasing newsletter.
Additionally, she is closely involved with community vendors, always offering timely and
accurate communications. Brenda exhibits a broad range of experience and skills that have
proven invaluable to the Purchasing Department. She is an independent thinker and her upbeat
attitude towards both internal and external customers is positive and contagious! She is an
asset to the county and community.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
Brenda Reaves as "Employee of the Month" for March 2013.
