EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept a donation from the recently dissolved Collier County Friends
of Extension, Inc. in the amount of $40,631.43, approve a budget amendment in that
amount recognizing revenue and appropratiating $21,400.00 to supplement existing
education program materials and supplies and place the remaining$19,231.43 in reserves.
OBJECTIVE: To supplement existing education programs provided to the community through
the University Extension.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Collier County Friends of Extension has been an active partner in
supporting horticultural programs delivered by University Extension for several years. The group
recently disbanded and in the process, forwarded a donation in the amount of $40,631.43 to
University Extension for this purpose.
The Collier County University Extension Department is a federal, state, and county partnership
dedicated to developing knowledge in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life
sciences, and enhancing and sustaining the quality of human life by making that information
accessible.
Collier County University of Florida/IFAS for the past 40 years has provided over 100 programs
that benefit all sections of our community. These additional funds will help to suppliement
exisiting education programs especially for children in rural communities.
The funding received will be used for the continuation of UF/IFAS Collier Extension outreach
and education programs throughout Collier County.
FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment will be processed that will increase the Collier
County University Extension Trust Fund (604) budget by $40,631.43 with $21,400.00 added to
existing education program appropriations and $19,231.43 placed in reserves.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated
with this request.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, presents
no legal issues, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners accept funds in the amount
of $40,631.43 to support UF/IFAS Collier Extension outreach and education programs and
subsequently approve a budget amendment to increase the OF/IFAS Collier Extension Trust
Fund budget by $21,400.00 to supplement existing education program materials and supplies and
place the remaining$19,231.43 in reserves.
