PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is a national initiative to open a dialogue about the importance
of open government and freedom of information; and,
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week grew out of Florida's Sunshine Sunday in 2002 in response to
efforts by some Florida legislators to create scores of new exemptions to the
state's public records law; and,
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week supports principles of open government and the public's right
to know and have access to public records, including financial records; and,
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week increases public awareness and efforts of participants are
being cited as real forces for moving the public away from simply accepting
excessive and unwarranted government secrecy; and,
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is being promoted by national, state and local officials,
including the Clerk of the Circuit Court, it is agreed that all Collier County
government officials shall work together to implement full transparency in
county government in order to give taxpayers easy access to all county
records, including financial records.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that March 10-16, 2013 be designated as
SUNSHINE WEEK IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 129' Day of March, 2013.
