EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a Resolution establishing an ad hoc Public Transit Advisory
Committee.
OBJECTIVE: To engage transit users, businesses and agencies in an Advisory Committee in order to
address Transit efficiencies and future funding alternatives to meet Community and service needs.
CONSIDERATIONS: On January 22, 2013, the Board directed the County Manager to establish an
Advisory Committee for the County's Transit system to provide input to staff to assist in identifying ways
to improve the system and serve as advocates for its effectiveness.
The attached Resolution is proposed to establish a Public Transit Advisory Committee to be made up of
transit users, representatives from large employers, health care providers, social services, transportation
and planning professionals, as well as one representative designated by the School District. Member
participants will be asked to provide insight on the issues and concerns from their perspective and will be
provided information relating to operations and funding for transit as it currently exists and as projected in
the future.
This ad hoc Advisory Committee will sunset twelve (12) months from the date of the committee's first
public meeting.
FISCAL IMPACT: The establishment of a Public Transit Advisory Committee will require staff
administration including but not limited to scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, keeping minutes,
follow up items, etc. These functions will be added to an existing job bank full time employee's
responsibility and will be funded with Federal Transit Administration Section 5311 ARRA Grant
($29,000) and Collier Area Transit Fund 426 ($26,000) for the current fiscal year.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed and approved by the County Attorney's
Office, is legally sufficient for Board action and only requires a majority vote for approval —SRT.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: Consistent with Objective 10 and 12 of the Transportation
Element of the Growth Management Plan.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board approves the proposed establishment of an ad hoc Public
Transit Advisory Committee and authorizes its Chairwoman to sign the attached Resolution.
