EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve the naming of the Frank Halas Bridge and the Memorial Pathway
along Vanderbilt Drive.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain approval from the Board of County Commissioners (Board) to name
the Vanderbilt Drive bridge over the Cocohatchee River the "Frank Halas Bridge" and to name
the pathway along the west side of the Vanderbilt Drive corridor from 111th Avenue North to
Bonita Beach Road, the "Memorial Pathway."
CONSIDERATIONS: On April 8th, 2014, County staff presented the Vanderbilt Drive Bicycle
and Pedestrian Safety Improvement Study to the Board. After public request and Board
discussion, staff was directed to bring back a Resolution to name the bridge across the
Cocohatchee River the "Frank Halas Bridge" to honor former County Commissioner Frank
Halas and name the pathway along the west side of Vanderbilt Drive the "Memorial Pathway"to
honor those who have lost their lives while bicycling or walking in Collier County.
The resolution has been prepared and approved by the County Attorney's Office and is attached
to this Executive Summary.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality, and requires
majority vote for Board approval.—SRT
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated
with this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board approves the attached Resolution:
• To name the Vanderbilt Drive bridge over the Cocohatchee River the "Frank Halas
Bridge" to honor Frank Halas for his many years of service as the County Commissioner
of that district.
• To name the pathway along the west side of Vanderbilt Drive from 111th Avenue North
to Bonita Beach Road the "Memorial Pathway," in order to honor those who have lost
their lives or have been hurt while bicycling or walking in Collier County.

RESOLUTION NO.2014-
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF COLLIER COUNTY APPROVING THE NAMING OF THE
BRIDGE ACROSS THE COCOHATCHEE RIVER THE "FRANK
HALAS BRIDGE" AND THE PATHWAY ALONG THE WEST SIDE
OF VANDERBILT DRIVE THE "MEMORIAL PATHWAY."
WHEREAS, on April 8, 2014, County staff presented the Vanderbilt Drive Bicycle and
Pedestrian Safety Improvement Study to the Board of County Commissioners to request approval for
construction of pathways, shoulders, crosswalks and other safety enhancements that were requested by the
public along the Vanderbilt Drive corridor; and
WHEREAS, after public request it has been determined that naming the bridge across the
Cocohatchee River the "Frank Halas Bridge" would be a fitting honor to Frank Halas for his many years
of service as the County Commissioner of that district; and
WHEREAS, it has also been determined that it is appropriate to name the pathway along the west
side of Vanderbilt Drive the "Memorial Pathway," in order to honor those who have lost their lives while
bicycling or walking in Collier County.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY,FLORIDA,that:
1. The bridge over the Cocohatchee River shall hereafter be named the"Frank Halas Bridge."
2. The pathway along Vanderbilt Drive shall hereafter be named"Memorial Pathway."
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida,this day of ,2014.
