PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Bob Votruba has challenged many school children and adults in Collier County to reach One
Million Acts of Kindness in their lifetimes through his nationwide bus and bicycle tour,
promoting that kind thoughts and acts can be practiced in schools, public governments,
businesses, and communities to create a better and more efficient society as a whole; and,
WHEREAS, he has bicycled thousands of miles, traveling the perimeter of the United States to visit
Collier County at least twice with his dog Bogart, in his three year bicycle tour so far; and,
WHEREAS, suicide prevention and awareness of this persistent challenge facing our nation's youth is one
of Bob Votruba's priorities to ultimately reduce death by suicide in our nation's young people;
and,
WHEREAS, Bob Votruba also recognizes all United States military veterans who gave years of dedicated
service to our country; and,
WHEREAS, Bob Votruba wants to raise awareness for those veterans who often face multiple mental
health issues resulting from their honorable service, and prevent suicide as much as possible
in returning military veterans' lives; and,
WHEREAS, Bob Votruba has a positive message for everyone he meets on his journey that bullying is a
serious problem at schools, playgrounds, and at school bus stops nationwide, and kindness is a
virtue that everyone can practice every day to prevent bullying behaviors in our nation's young
people, especially; and,
lEREAS, cyber bullying on the Internet is another critical problem amongst our nation's teenagers that
can be reduced by seeking more parental involvement and adult leadership in young people's
lives; and,
WHEREAS, when all generations of Collier County residents work together to build a peaceful, kind, and
harmonious community, everyone benefits from such interactions every single day and each
resident of Collier County has the potential to be proactive in modeling kind behaviors no
matter what their age, race, religion, gender, or national origin; and,
WHEREAS, everyone can be proactive in spreading the message of kindness in their everyday life within
Collier County.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that
January .14, 2014 be designated as
KINDNESS AWARENESS DAY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 14th Day of January, 2014.
