EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to adopt a resolution approving the expenditure of funds and other incentive
activities and incentive prizes associated with Staff and authorizing the waiver of entrance fee to
Sun -N —Fun to all participants of the 2015 United Way Walk.
OBJECTIVE: To support The United Way's fundraising efforts for the 2015 -2016 season.
CONSIDERATIONS: In past years the Board of County Commissioners has recognized the worthwhile
goals of the United Way of Collier County and the positive impacts participation in the United Way
Campaign has within our organization and for the citizens of the community. For the past several years
the County Manager has appointed a member of Senior Staff to serve on the United Way Board of
Directors. Public Services Department Head Steve Carrell has been serving in that capacity since 2013.
In order to expend county funds to recognize volunteer services performed by County employees the
Board must first adopt an implementing resolution setting forth the purpose of the expenditure pursuant to
Collier County Ordinance No. 87 -5. Staff recommends that the Board continue to do so.
Employees have been encouraged by County Management and the other constitutional offices to support
and participate in the United Way Campaign activities. Employee participation is totally voluntary. The
events serve to boost employees' moral while contributing to an important community event. Outstanding
efforts by employees are to be recognized with incentive prizes including but not limited to: T- shirts,
mugs, pins, plastic water bottles, plaques, trophies, food, beverages, and incidental supplies for serving a
light snack for employees participating in the 2015 United Way Campaign. The expenditure for these
items will not exceed $2,000.
The 2015 Walk for the Way will be held at North Collier Regional Park on Saturday September 26t" and
will be preceded by the Run for the Way event sponsored by the Gulf Coast Runners. To show
appreciation to the citizens who come out to support and raise much needed funds for the United Way
staff is also proposing that the Board waive the entrance fee for one day at Sun -N -Fun Lagoon on the day
of the Walk and Run for anyone who participates in either event. Participants will be furnished wrist
bands to be used to gain entrance into Sun -N -Fun Lagoon.
