44HEREAS, the Collier County Recycling Ordinance Akimber 2009 -56, established the Waste Reduction
Awards Program (the WRAP award); and
WHEREAS, the WPUP award recognizes businesses, institutions, and mu /ti- family residences for enhanced
and innovative recycling programs; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize Pub /ix and its Store ,�Ot1458 f or
contributing to the greater good of Collier County by advocating recycling, thereby helping to
prolong the usable life of the Collier County Landfill, and,
WHEREAS, the Pub /ix recycling program includes
• Offering customers the in -store option of recycling of paper and plastic bags, plastic sleeves
from dry cleaning and newspopers, and shrink wrap.
• Recycling more than 220, 500 tons of cardboard, 4,100 tons of wax cardboard; 3,650 tons of
mixed paper, and nearly 9 tons of mixed plastic in 2014.
• Being the first regional supermarket pharmacy to introduce prescription vials made from pre- and
post - consumer recycled PET plastic, a / /owing customers to reeve% the via ls by bringing them back
to their Pub/ix Pharmacy. More than 6 mi//ion prescription vials have been recycled through this
program.
^'HEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy, and space on the county's
website showcasing eco- friend /y business practices and recycling programs; and,
WHEREAS, the So /id and Hazardous Waste Management Department congratulates Mr. Scot Oehmigen,
Pub /ix Store #1458 Manager; Kim Brinson, Pub /ix Recycling and So /id Waste Program Manager;
and a// Pub/ix associates for their outstanding efforts to promote waste reduction and recycling,
and setting a positive example for other grocery and supermarket stores. Their initiatives will
have a significant effect on sustaining the usable life of the Collier County Landfill and protecting
the environment.
