Agenda 01/23/2018 Item #3D01/23/2018
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Arik Garcia, Supervisor-Athletics, Public Services Department as
the Supervisor of the Year 2017
OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of an employee who has made significant
contributions to the organization or to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: As part of the County’s formal recognition program, each year the Human
Resources Division solicits nominations from staff to highlight the accomplishments of one of special
supervisor who exemplifies the characteristics of great leadership in either one special project or
continually throughout the year. This year, 17 nominations were received and considered by the
Employee of the Month Committee. Arik Garcia, Supervisor, Athletics, Parks & Recre ation, who has
been with the County since 2014 and works for the Public Services Department, has been selected as the
Supervisor of the Year for 2017.
As the Athletic Supervisor, Arik actively leads, evaluates, supervises, and directs the athletic progra ms at
North Collier Regional Park for both adults and youth, serving thousands of Collier residents. Arik’s
dedication shows in the time and energy he puts into these special events, athletic programs, and day to
day operations, always going beyond the call of duty. Whether it’s developing large tournaments, small
in- house programs, managing the Summer Food Program that feeds over 30,000 meals to kids in need
each summer, or assisting with hurricane recovery, Arik is on the front line leading by example, working
with his staff or volunteering in any other area that has a need. He is equally comfortable running a
program, pushing a broom, or lining a field; he sees the bigger picture, and inspires his staff to do the
same.
In his time supervising at North Collier Park, Arik has achieved 100% of his revenue goals, while
maintaining his dedication to his staff, the community and the programs. As one of his staff says, “many
can manage, few can lead, and Arik is a leader in every sense”. He mentors young supervisors, he can
correct or redirect with compassion, and is always available to step in with guidance. Arik is an “All Star”
Supervisor and is exceptionally deserving of this award.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected “Supervisor of the Year” receives a $250.00 cash award. Funds for this
are available in the Human Resources Budget for this program.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: To approve the recognition of Arik Garcia as Supervisor of the Year for 2017.
