Agenda 01/09/2018 Item #16F 301/09/2018
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to transfer the balance of $15,500 of the BCC approved $125,000 funding
commitment in support of the Naples is Rockin’ concert event that took place on December 9, 2017
to the Community Foundation of Collier County, amend the Memorandum of Understanding with
the Community Foundation, and make a finding that this item promotes tourism.

OBJECTIVE: Transfer to the Community Foundation the balance of the BCC approved support for the
concert operating expenses for the Post Hurricane Irma Concert in December.
CONSIDERATIONS: The “Naples is Rockin” concert on December 9, 2017 in downtown Naples was
a great success. Performers Casey Weston, 20Ride and Sugar Ray bands entertained an audience of about
2,500 attendees including our wonderful First Responders to Hurricane Irma.
On November 14, 2017, the Board authorized the expenditure of $125,000 in Tourist Development Tax
Funds in the form of a transfer of $109,500 to the Community Foundation and the balance of $15,500 to
the event organizer, McQuaid & Company, the production company (Item 11G). Operating expenses for
event fencing, porta johns, band transportation to and from the airports and hotel ro oms for the headliner
entertainers required some negotiation to secure lower rates. This was accomplished and the Community
Foundation has now paid those remaining vendor invoices, and there are no event operating expenses or
promotion fees owed to McQuaid & Company.
Staff recommends that the balance of the $15,500 originally earmarked for McQuaid & Company be
remitted to the Community Foundation as they have now reimbursed those event operating expenses. A
final accounting of revenue and expenses for the concert is attached.
The revenue from the above sponsorships and the event admission ticket sales were all remitted to the
Community Foundation and the vendor invoices have been paid from those funds. The balance of that
revenue will be distributed by the Community Foundation and the United Way from their Irma Relief
Fund to organizations that can redistribute them to cover the still unmet needs in the community resulting
from Hurricane Irma.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding of $15,500 for the balance of this tourist tax funding commitment is
available in Fund 184 in the Tourism Division approved FY 18 budget.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact to the Growth Management Plan with this
Executive Summary.
ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDATION: The Tourist Development Council recommended
approval of the total $125,000 funding of this event 6-1 at the October 23, 2017 meeting.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been approved as to form and legality and requires
majority vote for approval. - CMG
