A resume has been attached for your consideration. As you may be aware, I recently resigned (June 19, 1991) from the position of Chief Environmental Specialist with the Community Development Division (Project Review Section) , a position I held for approximately 15 months. Former experience has included an environmental review position with Hillsbourgh County Florida and two years of hazardous waste site investigation under contract to the US Environmental Protection Agency. My educational background is in botany and wildlife management. In my former position with the county, my duties included review, approval and occasionally presentation of staff reports to the Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) and environmentally related resolutions heard by the Board of County Commissioners (eg. Coastal Construction Setback Line Variances) . I would like to continue this relationship with a seat on the EAB. I have been a resident of Collier County since October 1988. My current address is: 4701 31ST AVE SW Naples, Florida 33999 Thank you for this opportunity to be considered for seat with the EAB. My educational and professional background provide an excellent combination, appropriate for such a board. I have a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, concentrating in environmental issues such as ecology and aquatic biology. I was awarded a scholarship to study marine biology in Mexico as well as to serve as a Research Scientist aboard a Woods Hole Oceanographic Research Vessel in the North Atlantic. After my undergraduate education, I worked as an Aquatic Biologist with an environmental consulting firm. The bulk of our work dealt with water quality and point source pollution, generally affiliated with power plants. I then went on to Graduate School and received a Master of Landscape Architecture, with an emphasis in Computer Aided Land Use and Environmental Planning. I worked part-time throughout my graduate studies as the student coordinator of an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency funded study of non-point sources of pollution - assessing the relationships of varying land uses to water quality within the state. My thesis was a direct outgrowth of that work, published in "Water Resources Research" and received a national honor award for research. 7637 Pelican Bay Boulevard • Naples, Florida 33963 • (813) 598-3200 Westinghouse Communities of Naples,Inc. i 9 7J C 0 (_ / Page 2 ( Mrs. Sue Filson August 29, 1991 I then began a four year teaching career in the School of Renewable Natural Resources, Division of Landscape Resources at the University of Arizona. My primary research covered relationships between land uses and water harvesting within the desert environment. My teaching responsibilities were many and included site design, graphics, and computer aided environmental design. After teaching I spend four years as Regional Manager of a Land Planning and Landscape Architecture firm. We prepared and coordinated all planning efforts for master plans, zoning and permitting for projects ranging from 300 to 5,000 acres. Additionally, we worked in the public sector preparing General and Comprehensive Plans, trail systems, regional wildlife corridor studies and parks and recreation master plans. Since then I have been with Westinghouse Communities, first in Arizona and for the past year, here in Naples. My responsibilities involve coastal planning and development (including extensive interaction with DNR, Sea Turtle Plans, etc), zoning, site design, ff environmental plans and maintenance programs, landscape, and signage. 11 I am very interested in serving on the Environmental Advisory Board. My background and experience enable me to understand the interface between the environmental and resource protection and development issues. I live and am registered to vote in Collier County.
