PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, behavioral health is an essential part of health and a person's overall wellness;
and,
WHEREAS, in Collier County an estimated one in four individuals will struggle with mental
health challenges, and one in nine individuals will struggle with substance use
disorder challenges in all areas across our country; and,
WHEREAS, evidence supports that our nation is in an opioid crisis, and overdose deaths
continue to grow exponentially; and,
WHEREAS, mental health issues are also increasing such that there are two suicides in
America for every one homicide; and,
WHEREAS, preventing and overcoming mental and substance use disorders are essential to
achieving healthy lifestyles, both physically and emotionally; and,
WHEREAS, prevention of mental and substance use disorders works, treatment is
effective, and people recover when communities come together to support a
comprehensive system of care; and,
WHEREAS, to he/p more people achieve and sustain long-term recovery, the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration, the White House Office of National Drug
Control Policy, David Lawrence Center, Collier County Sheriff's Office, our
local judicial system, Collier County Public Schools, the National Alliance on
Mental Illness, NCH Healthcare System, Drug Free Collier and a host of other
mental health and substance abuse advocates invite all residents of Collier
County to participate in National Recovery Month.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proc/aimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that September be designated as
NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 26th Day of September, 2017.
