Introduction:
-Bill Coakley,Director of the Information Technology Department was introduced
-Bill gave a background of the development of the department
-the original concept was to move to an automated system, from dumb terminals and glass house
computer to a PC network"Islands of Automation"
-the old `All-in-One' system has limited sharing capabilities and county hopped several generations
of technology in the move to the PC network
-there was a lack of on-going training and education,even in the old `All-in-One' system
-IT's Vision 2000 evolved from 6 building blocks
-PC with Office software,UKA (Universal Knowledge Assistant)
-Universal Computer Network,all new
-Standard Office Support Software
-UKA/UCN based information system
-training, training,training (without it a wasted effort)
-ongoing proactive IT support
-in Collier County UKA includes:
-Windows 95 microcomputer
-Office 95 software
-Part of Universal Network
-E-mail
-sharing information
-platform for all applications
-there are universal requirement because everyone works with numbers, schedules, data and
everyone communicates with others
-the county will be able to tap into 800MHz towers to transmit data

Timing
-2 year program for General Fund departments
-non general fund use own reserves
-physical environment will determine roll out
Status
-103 on line now
-186 more this fiscal year
-second level training already started
-County Manager signed off on County standard
-GIS Property Appraiser information needs to be integrated
-GIS (Geographic Information System)
-mapping,auto cad, land information system
-help line calls, 500 per week
-estimated ongoing maintenance charge for next fiscal year is$1,100 per
-the committee thanked Bill for his informative presentation
-General Weiss was introduced as one of the newest members of the Productivity Committee
-General Weiss told the committee a little about his background and was welcomed by the group
Budget Sub-committee Update:
-Dave Craig outlined the sub-committee's progress
-Jack McKenna advised the Committee that he received a call from Dick Baker
-he is pulling together an Ad Hoc committee in an attempt to produce a more taxpayer friendly
budget document and is asking for representation from the Productivity Committee
-representation will draw from Marco Island Taxpayers, President Council, League of Women
Voters, TAGG
-an organization meeting will take place in two weeks
-the Committee discussed the possibility of participation and decided that this would dilute the
Productivity Committee's effectiveness
Human Resources Sub-committee Report:
-two future projects that the Human Resources Sub-committee might consider are diversity training
and Workers' Compensation incentives
-consideration will be given to creating a third sub-committee in the area of Purchasing
-Bernie Weiss will contact Steve Carnell to deterimine possible course
Jack McKenna will write a letter of thanks to John Hickey for his contribution to the Productivity
Committee
-all are sorry to see John leave and wish him well in his new responsibilities.
