Members Present: Bill Neal, Bill Ebben, Janet Vasey, Wolfgang Schulz, Ed Ferguson, Judith McCaffrey, Sharon Hanlon, and Donald Campbell Members Absent: Commissioner Carter, Charles Getler, Karl Otto, and(Bob Cahners and John Stockton—both resigned) Staff: Gary Vincent Introduction: Bill Neal opened the August 18, 1999 meeting of the County Government Productivity Committee (PC) at 4:00 P.M. New Business Bill Neal read John Stockton's letter of resignation to the committee and expressed his appreciation for all the work that John has done for the committee over the past three and a half years. Bill reported that he had met with Commissioner Mac'kie to discuss the required review of the Productivity Committee. He also expressed the PC's concerns about the type of projects that are being assigned to the committee and mentioned specifically, the PC's interest in the issues involving the County's landfill. Wolfgang Schulz suggested that the PC participate in a workshop with the BCC so that all members of both groups were present and could thoroughly discuss all the issues. The members of the PC agreed. They feel that the PC should work on significant projects that would provide the County the most benefit. Gary Vincent distributed copies of the ordinance governing committee reviews. He pointed out that the review should begin with a letter from the PC to the County Administrator(CA). The letter should contain specific items that are listed in the ordinance. Bill requested that the committee members provide him input for the letter to the CA. Bill also offered Commissioner Mac'kie an evaluation system developed by Karl Otto that could be used for the CA and all other managers in the county. He offered the PC's assistance in further developing that system. Bill also reported that he had sent a letter to Commissioner Carter requesting more information concerning the sewage system project but had not received a response yet. The committee discussed how projects are assigned to the PC, questioning if it was appropriate to do projects that are brought to the committee by a single commissioner or if the project should be assigned by the BCC as a whole. The PC agreed that work could not begin on the project until more direction was received by the BCC. Old Business Gary Vincent distributed a copy of a preliminary report written by John Stockton and Donald Campbell on the Equipment Maintenance and Storage project. Judith McCaffrey distributed a packet of information that she had put together on the Loss Prevention project. She stated that the project should be larger in scale and better defined. Comments/Suggestions: The meeting adjourned at 5:35 P.M. The next meeting will be Wednesday, September 15th, at 4:00 P.M. in the County Administrator's Conference Room. cc: Commissioner Barbara Berry Robert F.
