MINUTES
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 4:30 P.M. by Ms. Spencer. Attendance was called and a quorum was
established.
II. Attendance: Patricia Spencer, Chairman; Herman Haeger, Vice Chairman; Ron Jefferson;

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
IV. Approval of Agenda
Ms. Spencer moved to approve the Agenda of the Golden Gate Advisory Committee subject to the
following changes:
Add: Item VIII. Project Managers Report-D. FPL Street Lights
Item X. New Business—A. General Improvements for Golden Gate City
Second by Mr. Haeger. Carried unanimously S- 0.
V. Approval of Minutes: May 16,2017
Ms. Holmes moved to approve the minutes of the May 16, 2017 meeting as presented.

VI. Landscape Maintenance Report—Hannula Landscaping& Irrigation
Ms. Acevedo reported on landscape maintenance as follows:
General
• Bougainvillea and Firebush plants, Palmetto trees and Paurotis Palms are being trimmed.
• No insect activity is evident.

• Bougainvillea will be treated with insecticide then liquid fertilizer applied.
• Replacement plants approved at the May 2017 meeting will be ordered and installed.
• Weeds in beds will be addressed.
Sunshine Boulevard
• A proposal has been submitted to replace plants at 18th Place SW damaged by an auto accident.
Coronado Parkway and Hunter Boulevard
• Hannula Landscaping is working with Rainbow Pest Control to develop a solution to the decline
and death of the Flax Lily plantings. Soil and root samples will be analyzed. Monthly or bi-
monthly cleaning and trimming, including removal of dead foliage, will be scheduled.
• The Alexander Palms were drenched with fungicide; a second application will be applied.
Irrigation
Excessive water run off onto the roadways may necessitate fungicide treatment.
Collier Boulevard and Golden Gate Parkway
These roadways are maintained by the Collier County Road&Bridge Division.
VII. Landscape Architect's Report—McGee and Associates
A. Maintenance Reports
Mr. McGee submitted the "Landscape Observation Report: -FY 16-17, June 2017" for information
purposes and the following items were discussed:
Tropicana Boulevard
• Remove the Orchid tree and replace with a Jacaranda tree.
• Sprouts at base of tree trunks should be removed.
• Recommend Hannula Landscaping count and submit a proposal for replacement of Dwarf
Fakahatchee plants.
• Estimated water use was 360,850 gallons for May.
To clarify estimated maintenance costs for the proposed renovation of Tropicana Boulevard as
discussed at the May meeting, Mr. McGee researched comparisons for costs of Perennial Peanut
versus St. Augustine grass as follows:
• St. Augustine maintenance exceeds cost of Perennial Peanut by $3,200 per 5,000 square feet.
• Perennial Peanut maintenance cost averages $64 per 1,000 square feet; St. Augustine cost is
$350 - $400 per 1,000 square feet.
Coronado Parkway and Hunter Boulevard
• Hunter Boulevard: Fourth Alexander Palm Tree has died. Replacement proposal should
include fungicide soil drench.
• Recommend comprehensive review to determine cause of decline and death of the Flax Lily
plantings including soil and plant analysis. Avoid herbicide spray in the vicinity of Flax Lily
plants and remove mulch from the base.
• March water usage registered 154,541 gallons for both roadways.

Sunshine Boulevard
• 18th Place SW-Recommend removing Bougainvillea damaged by an auto accident and
replanting the median with Perennial Peanut. A proposal has been requested from Hannula
Landscaping.
• Fertilizer formula should be modified. Mr. McGee will coordinate a schedule commencing
in October 2017 with Mr. Schumacher.
• Water usage was estimated at 442,906 gallons for May.
VIII. Project Manager's Report
A. Monthly Budget Report
Mr. Schumacher drafted a list of items requiring attention during his community drive through with
Mr. McGee and Mr. Pacheco noting he will cross reference insurance claims for landscaping
replacements with insurance reports filed.
Mr. Schumacher summarized the Golden Gate MSTU Fund Budget 153 dated June 20, 2017
noting:
a. Monthly Report
• $234,235 of the $249,000 budget for FY17 Ad Valorem property taxes has been collected.
• Carry Forward funds of$474,843 (budgeted monies unspent FY16)brings Total Revenue
to $724,842 of which 485,553 is not committed.
• FY17 planned Operating Expense Budget is $363,542. Current commitments total
$158,489 and 2017 YTD expenditures total $129,281.
• Uncommitted Operating Expense funds available are $75,771.68.
• Improvements General Fund of$316,700 (Line 28) is reserved to finance special projects
subject to review and approval of the County accounting office.
• Line items in red reflect invoices billed after the start of the FY17 year and will be closed
out.
• Total available balance less committed expenses totals $395,838.
b. Proposed FY-18 Budget
Mr. Schumacher distributed the proposed FY18 Budget for Committee consideration noting the
increase in millage rate to 0.5 was communicated to the Budget Office.
• Revenue structure for FY18 is $376,500. vs. $250,000. for FY17—an increase of 50.6%.
• Carry Forward Funds FY18 total $358,000. vs. $474,843. FY17.
• FY 18 Operating Expenses are projected to be $339,500.; FY17 original projection was
$363,543 (forecast FY17 $317,500).
• Total proposed expenditures FY18 of$734,500. are similar to FY17 plan of$724,843.
Ms. Spencer motioned to approve the Fiscal Year 2018 Proposed Budget for the Golden Gate
Beautification M.S.T.U. Second by Mr. Haeger. Carried unanimously 5—0.
B. Irrigation Status
Mr. Schumacher reported as follows:
a. Status
The irrigation system is functioning properly.
b. Coronado & Hunter Design
The design plans by McGee and Associates for irrigation control system valve wiring and
conduits on Coronado Parkway and Hunter Boulevard utilizing HydroPoint controls is ready

for a Request for Quote distribution. Quotes will be evaluated in October 2017 and the
Committee will render a decision to move forward at that time.
C. Quotes
Mr. Schumacher reported no new quotes were pending.
D. FPL Street Lights—Golden Gate Parkway
Commissioner Saunders requested Staff review the street lights on Golden Gate Parkway.
Observations determined many street lights are obscured by overgrown foliage.
Mr. Schumacher will identify the entity responsible for tree trimming around the street lamps
(Florida Power and Light or Collier County)and notify them of the concern.
IX. Old Business
A. Canal Bridge Fencing(Golden Gate Parkway)
This item will be discussed at the July meeting.
B. Santa Barbara and Golden Gate Refurbishment Status
A landscape refurbishment plan was proposed in early 2016 and a corresponding irrigation expansion
plan in November, 2016. The overall project has been delayed while existing irrigation components
in the vicinity are repaired and/or upgraded.
X. New Business
A. General Improvements for Golden Gate City
Ms. Spencer reported Commissioner Saunders is seeking recommendations for Golden Gate City
projects, such as lighting and sidewalks, for presentation at the Board of County Commissioners
August meeting.
Ms. Spencer directed members to compile recommendations for consideration at the July 2017
Advisory Committee meeting.
XI. Public/Board Comments
In response to Ms. Spencer's concern regarding a proliferation of weeds in the canals, Mr. Schumacher will
research County standards (including the maintenance schedule) and report his findings to the Committee
Ms. Spencer noted July 4th flags will be installed on July 1, 2017 at 9 am and removed July 4, 2017 at
7 pm. Hannula was advised to schedule maintenance accordingly.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned
by the Chair at 5:25 P.M.
