Controlled growth committees would not allow a residential country road to
be rebuilt into a 6 lane highway.
Developers would build a 6 lane highway taming a residential country road
into a commercial corridor.
How will SB/L resemble other 6 lane roads? After 6 lanes are installed on
SB/L, the family homes on SB/L will slowly disappear. The residences will
become income rentals, slowly depreciating until the neighborhoods around
them would desire and allow commercial uses hoping they might look
better. (Some are unhappy with some of the rental units on the E. side of SB
today.) So, the zoning will change up and down SB/L and the 600' + or -
depth of properties which line our neighborhoods will change from
residential to commercial properties changing forever the landscape of our
neighborhoods. What kind of commercial entities will line SB/L.? Will
these changes depreciate our neighborhoods? Our residentially lined 4 lane
Santa Barbara / Logan is a BEAUTIFUL residential country road lined with
beautiful pine trees and homes, which makes all our properties next to them
beautiful. Would commercial property do the same? Show us a 6 lane
highway where the homeowners still live.
We have signed resolutions from the majority of our property owners on
SB/L stating they will not sell their properties to Collier County for the
purpose of expanding our roads. The county must exercise eminent domain
to take this land fi.om there owners for the purpose of creating a highway
equal to or larger than 175 (4 lanes which will soon have exits at both Pine
Ridge and GG Parkway), Airport Pulling, Goodlette, most of US 41, 951,
and Livingston Rd.
We have petitioned the residences of Collier County and have 2500
signatures of people who do not want our road increased to 6 lanes. How
many signatures will it take to stop this?
The safety of our children is the most important reason most of us are here.
We have approximately 90 bus stops on SB/L each school day. Soon the 4
year old children will be joining the ranks of the little ones climbing aboard
the big yellow school buses. The traffic on our tree lined street will not
change by adding more thru travel lanes because the traffic still has to stop
and stay behind the school buses during these peak use periods of time
associated with school and work travel. Six lanes will never change these
traffic backups, but a couple more mm lanes southbound at GG Parkway
will help.
Please vote to keep SB/L a residential country road in the middle of all this
growth.

I have a question for the Collier County Commissioners.
Over six months ago the Logan/Santa Barbara Civic
Association expended an enormous amount of time and energy
in an attempt to convey to the commissioners how the people
who are directly impacted by the proposed changes being
contemplated to Logan/Santa Barbara feel.
The information passed was accomplished by a four-hour
presentation to the Metropolitan Planning Organization. That
body was partially made up of the members of the Collier
County Commissioners. There was never any attempt made on
the part of either the Metropolitan Planning Organization or
the Collier County Commissioners to reciprocate and feed
back any information to the Logan/Santa Barbara Civic
Association.
Now we are tasked with the prospect of repeating all of
that effort in another duplicate presentation to the Board of
Commissioners as if it were virgin information, that is to say,
information that is reaching the Board for the first time. What
happened to the four-hour presentation that was given to the
Metropolitan Planning Organization in October? Was it
summarily discarded?
The point has been repeatedly made that the
Transportation Department has attempted to create a smoke
screen clouding the issue by hosting a series of Community
Involvement meetings ostensibly to gage the feelings and
wishes of the community. The Community Involvement Team
has consisted of from eight to eleven people who were picked
by the Transportation Department. It is still unknown how
they were picked and how the Transportation Department can
justify that tiny number as being representative of the over
1500 families who will be directly impacted by any changes,
good or bad, that will be made to the road in question. That
number is not statistically valid nor is the manner of choosing
the representative sample.
The suffocation and tabling of the information presented to
the Metropolitan Planning Organization in October with the
concomitant necessity of repeating it in another meeting
smacks of the same type of smoke screen the Department of
Transportation has been utilizing in an effort to disregard the
wishes of the people and to press on with their own agenda.
Doesn't it strike you as strange that the people, the
citizenry, are placed in the position of trying to convince the
County Commissioners that the enormous expense they are
contemplating for the road is unneeded, unwanted and
unnecessary? In most communities the governing bodies are
mandated to guard the collective purse strings of the populace
and not the other way around. This is just another example of
the tail wagging the dog in Collier County.
I would ask that the Collier County Commissioners pay
more attention to the mandate that they are tasked with, that
is, to represent the people and not special interest groups.
Listen to the repeated pleas of your constituency manifested in
the various forms of actual communication received by you
and suppress preconceived ideas you may have as to how the
community is to live and function.
The wishes of the people living on and about Logan/Santa
Barbara can be summed up into four simple statements.
(1) Do not six lane the road
(2) Lower the speed limits
(3) Fix the intersection of Santa Barbara and Golden Gate
Parkway
(4) Bring Santa Barbara up to the standards needed to
make it part of the greater Naples/Collier County
complex.
