No 9/8/2005 Page 2 of 3 • Do you now serve, or have you served on a No Collier County board or committee? Please list your community activities: I am currently a board member of the Estuaries Conservation Association and the Friends of Big Cypress. Education: Bachelors in Environmental Studies from Prescott College, Prescott, Arizona and a Graduate Certificate (Non-thesis Masters) in Tropical Biology and Conservation from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. I also attended North Carolina Central University School of Law, specializing in Environmental Law, but relocated unexpectedly due to spouse's career and did not complete degree as of yet. Experience/ Background: Before I go into detail on my experience and background, I would like to mention that I attended the Habitat Conservation Plan Committee meeting today (September 7th). I have researched HCPs and am familiar with the events that have led to the formation of this Committee. have personally conducted Red-cockaded woodpecker surveys, written the subsequent reports and am knowledgeable on the biological and policy issues surrounding the task assigned to the Habitat Conservation Plan Ad Hoc Advisory Committee. Having worked in the public, private for-profit, and private non-profit sectors, I believe I would offer a balanced perspective on this issue as well. In my current position as Environmental Policy Specialist in the Environmental Policy Department of The Conservancy of Southwest Florida, I lead the Environmental Lands Acquisition and Management Program (ELAMP) and Estuaries programs. With ELAMP, I work with regional Environmental Lands Acquisition Programs to assist in their land acquisition efforts of environmentally sensitive lands as well as the management of Conservancy-owned lands. In addition, I am responsible for the Estuaries Program, which encompasses a wide variety of water resource policy initiatives. Prior to joining The Conservancy, I was employed as a Project Ecologist at WilsonMiller. In that position, I was responsible for scientific methodology • design, data collection and assimilation, and producing scientific reports. One such relevant project was 9/8/2005 Page 3 of 3 personally conducting the majority of an extensive Red- '''. cockaded woodpecker(RCW)field survey of the Twelve Lakes development in Collier County, Florida. I wrote the revised and updated Red-cockaded Woodpecker Report for the 2003 nesting season. Overall, I provided WilsonMiller with professional competency in scientific monitoring, species surveys, wetland jurisdictional determinations, environmental permitting, and marketing as well. Prior to environmental consulting, I served in the Florida public-sector as an Environmental Specialist for Hillsborough County, FL government. I was a team member within the Environmental Land Acquisition and Protection (ELAPP) program and for the County Road and Street Wetland Mitigation program. My responsibilities included being the lead staff person in the management of two preserves: McKay Bay (coastal mangrove and bay ecosystem) and Sterling Downs Scrub Preserve. In addition, I wrote and implementing land management plans, conducted baseline monitoring of the proposed parcels for acquisition, and implemented various aspects of restoration ecology including exotic vegetation removal, native replanting projects, and prescribed burning. With regard to wetland mitigation projects, I gained experience in mitigation design, determining monitoring methodology and protocol, and mitigation monitoring. Finally, I represented the ELAPP team at various boards and committees including the Bay Area Environmental Action Team; a multidisciplinary group of agency representatives, conservation group representatives and citizens groups. In conclusion, if selected, I would be honored to serve on the Habitat Conservation Plan Ad Hoc Advisory Committee and would strive to the best of my abilities to assist in assessing the feasibility of using, and developing a recommendation with regard to, implementing a Countywide Red-cockaded Woodpecker Habitat Conservation Plan in Collier County. • 9/8/2005
