Agenda 04/25/2017 Item #16K104/25/2017 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to appoint a member to the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. OBJECTIVE: To appoint a member to the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, to fill the remainder of a vacant term expiring on October 1, 2018. CONSIDERATIONS: This committee was created by Ordinance No. 91-65, as amended, which was repealed and replaced by Ordinance No. 2013-27. The purpose of this 11 member committee as required and described by 420.9076 Fla. Stat. is to review policies, procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, and the adopted local government comprehensive plan, and to recommend specific actions or initiatives to encourage or facilitate affordable housing. The committee is required to submit a triennial report to the Board of County Commissioners that includes recommendations on, and evaluates the implementation of, affordable housing incentives as required by 420.9076(4) Fla. Stat. A list of the current membership is included in the backup. Terms are three years, and membership must consist of the following: (a) One citizen who is actively engaged in the residential home building industry in connection with affordable housing. (b) One citizen who is actively engaged in the banking or mortgage banking industry in connect ion with affordable housing. (c) One citizen who is a representative of those areas of labor actively engaged in home building in connection with affordable housing. (d) One citizen who is actively engaged as an advocate for low-income persons in connection with affordable housing. (e) One citizen who is actively engaged as a for-profit provider of affordable housing. (f) One citizen who is actively engaged as a not-for-profit provider of affordable housing. (g) One citizen who is actively engaged as a real estate professional in connection with affordable housing. (h) One citizen who actively serves on the local planning agency pursuant to s. 163.3174. (i) One citizen who resides within the jurisdiction of the local governing body making the appointments. (j) One citizen who represents employers within the jurisdiction. My Grandfather owned a small commercial sub -contracting glass business in Michi a and my father was raised into it. This resulted in a partnership with he and a fellow co-worke over my upbringing in their own firm after my Grandfather sold his business off. My weeken activities were the result of my parents housing development from one house to the next as we grew and finally resulting in my first job as a trim carpenters assistant when I was 10 years of over summer break. I learned the value of precision and expert craftsmanship from this famil friend who noticed my interest in construction and want to be perfect. Over my Junior High an High School free time and summer breaks, I was able and had the opportunity to work foli several trades ranging from Electrician, Plumber, Rough Framing, Block & Brick Mason an Roofer. My family continued to construct 1-2 houses a year at any given time beyond my fathers daily partnership. My education extending into college provided me the opportunity to explore Architecture as a possible future and I secured through family connections during winter time work with a local Structural Engineer that m father worked with. This opportunity may hav been the deciding factor for my future and almost destroyed my abilities to successfully navi ate college. Within this industry, I learned the true value behind what relationship and knowledge Structural Engineer brings to design and hence, my inabilities to allow creativity to flow where deeded most in my college career. A learning lesson to say the lease, this experience forced rn� creative abilities to develop in a different way and force my understanding of how to achieve architecture within the rules of structural design and physics, resulting in an internship in Naples with a local Architect in my senior year. This experience opened new relationships and created new outlook on using different materials to create what was known to me as a very different wa o build. My valuable learning experience was the direct result from my grandfather, who opened this connection and allowed me the opportunity to understand how a different class o life lives in this area. After my internship and graduation, I moved to Washington DC where I worked with a mid-sized firm that specialized in Commercial Tilt -Up construction and Mixed - se design and project management. After a long year in Washington and the lack of what felt to e home, my family extended its Glass company to Naples, Florida and again I found m sel back. During the Real Estate boom, the glass industry was very kind to our family and business and we successfully completed thousands of projects over this local area and elsewhere aroun he state working for both Private and Commercially related projects. As one of Walmart an Marriott's preferred vendors, I was introduced to several individuals that opened many doors fo my young career. My local career beyond the family company started out by the very fortunate opportunity to have met my wife and have her introductions to new people and opportunities around the area. After the Real Estate collapse of 2008, my idea of KTS Group was formed an he beginning of the creation to create a company that truthfully designs and builds the ver designs that have been created by it for end users arose. I have a growing company that is gaining attention each year and we are now a preferred custom builder in a local Master Planne community within Naples. We design each and every plan that we offer and build. I was offere he opportunity to Build in Babcock Ranch last year, but due to funding issues, we have taken a option to recall our position at a later date. My company has won several awards on both a local and regional level and has gained the attention of several developers around the state. My desire 0 offer the ability to have people entering into the housing market afford and live withi something that doesn't cost a million dollars in the sole and only reason I am applying for this committee.
