Adjourn March 21,2017 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF COLLIER COUNTY DOMESTIC ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE Naples, Florida, March 21, 2017 LET IT BE REMEMBERED, that the Collier County Domestic Animal Services Advisory Committee in and for the County of Collier, having conducted business herein, met on this date at 6:30 PM in REGULAR SESSION at Domestic Animal Services Training Room, Davis Blvd., East Naples, Florida, with the following members present: CHAIRMAN: James Spartz VICE CHAIRMAN: Marjorie Bloom SECRETARY: Patrice Worcester James Rich James Seabasty Mary Baker(late) ALSO PRESENT: Darcy Andrade, Director, DAS Kyra Lynch, Shelter Operations Manager, DAS Dan Grossi, Animal Control Supervisor, DAS Kellie Carroll, Administrative Assistant, DAS I. Call to Order Chair James Spartz called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. II. Attendance A quorum was established. Keine Carroll presided over the projector displaying the Agenda packet. 1 March 21,2017 III. Approval of Agenda Marjorie Bloom made a motion to approve the agenda, there was a second and the motion carried 5-0. IV. Approval of Minutes of the January 17,2017 Meeting Marjorie Bloom made a motion to accept the minutes of the January 17, 2017 meeting, there was a second and the motion carried 5-0. V. New Business A. Director's Report Darcy Andrade advised the Board that there is a rough draft of the feasibility study and that the final draft should be completed by Friday and that she would like to meet soon to discuss the final draft. Ms.Andrade asked the Board to consider moving the May 2017 Advisory Board meeting to April so that the Board can discuss the study before the FY 18 budget needs to be submitted. Ms. Andrade told the Board that there will be an April adoption promotion and all adoptions will be 50%off. She also advised the Board that the Volunteer Coordinator position was offered to,and accepted by, a candidate who later withdrew his acceptance and the position will be re- posted. DAS will continue to delay the start of new volunteers until the position is filled. Jim Rich made a motion to move the May, 2017 Animal Services Advisory Board meeting to April 18, 2017, there was a second and the motion passed 5-0. VIII. Public Comment Mary O'Brien thanked Humane Society Naples for helping DAS. She also thanked Darcy Andrade and DAS staff for allowing short term fostering of DAS animals. Bridget Bannon stated that everyone was very happy that there are so few cats currently at DAS, but expressed concern that there are so few potential adopters. She asked the Board to send ideas to the Board of County Commissioners, like using tax bills,Collier TV,etc.,to get Domestic Animal Services name out before the public. She stated that she has seen banners at the main government center and that perhaps that was a possibility. Jim Seabasty advised that banners require permits and he is willing to assist in the process of obtaining permits. Marjorie Bloom asked if one of the volunteers could be tasked to write weekly copy and add events to magazines like Florida Weekly. Darcy Andrade stated that there already is a volunteer who should be working on that. 2 March 21.2017 IX. Advisory Board Member Comments Marjorie Bloom stated that she is amazed at how many animals are moving out of DAS. Patrice Worcester advised the Board that Humane Society Naples has taken 100 animals from DAS so far this year; fifty(50)dogs, forty three(43)cats and seven(7) small animals. Jim Seabasty made a motion to adjourn, there was a second and the motion passed 6-0. The next regularly scheduled Advisory Board Meeting will be on Tuesday,April 18,at 6:30 in the Domestic Animal Training Room, Davis Blvd., Naples, Florida.
