HALDEMAN CREEK DREDGING MSTU ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
OF THE FEBRUARY 07, 2017 MEETING
The meeting of the Haldeman Creek Dredge MSTU Advisory Committee was called to order
by Chairman Roy Wilson at 4:01 p.m. at the MSTU Office at 3570 Bayshore Drive.
I. Roll Call: Present: Advisory Committee Members: Roy Wilson, Steve Main, Jim
King and Joe Adams. Excused, Jack Bonzelaar.
MSTU Staff Present: Shirley Garcia, Operations Coordinator, Michelle Arnold,
PTNE Director,Tim Durham, County Mgr Office.
II. Pledge of Allegiance
III. Adoption of Agenda: Motion to approve the agenda as amended.Motion: Steve Main
Second: Joe Adams Approved: 4-0.
IV. Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve the minutes; Motion by Joe Adams; Second:
Steve Main Approved 4-0.
V. Project Manager Report:
A. BCC/CRA Annual Workshop: Every year the Board of County
Commissioner's has a workshop, Staff and the Advisory Committee members
usually attend. There are 3 new Commissioners and staff recommends the
advisory committee come out and introduce themselves and meet with the
Commissioners. Michelle Arnold recommended that the Committee members
look at a master plan to identify costs and see if they are on track with their
goals and objectives. Roy Wilson brought up dredging costs and that the
MSTU does not have"good data"to determine costs or what the needs are.
VI. Old Business:
a. Proposed Stormwater Improvements & Costs: Elly McKuen, Jerry Kurtz,
Shane Cox from Stormwater Department were present. Elly discussed
partnering with the Stormwater Dept. back in October 2016 when the group
updated the MSTU about the Counties Weir project and the desire to partner
with Haldeman Creek MSTU. As discussed in October, they brought back
proposals for the advisory committee to vote on for surveying and clearing &
trimming exotics/mangroves. After much discussion with Jerry Kurtz and
Shane Cox, to ensure this is not a wasted expense, the staff had explained that
it how the trimming back would make a difference for future maintenance on
the creek. Joe Adams made a motion to approve the survey and the removal of

exotics/mangroves (blue sky approach) up to a total of$18,935. Steve Main,
second. 4-0 passed unanimously.
VII. New Business:
a. Vote for Officers; Chairman and Vice Chair: Postponed until March meeting.
Jim King made a motion, Steve Main, 2"d. 4-0 passed unanimously.
b. Membership Applications:
i. Jack Bonzelaar—Jack was recommended for reappointment by Jim King
second by Steve Main. 4-0 passed unanimously.
ii. Kate Riley-New member application, Steve Main made a motion to
accept, Jim King, 2nd. 4-0 passed unanimously. There were members of
the community present to recommend Kate Riley to the Advisory Board.
Kate Riley spoke about her experience, and her desire to be on the
committee.
c. Goals and Objectives: Roy Wilson brought up reviewing the goals and
objectives, Jim King questioned goal 5.1 to "establish an educational outreach
program to educate property owners and agencies". Coincidentally, staff had put
a brochure for the KCB Bay Days clean up on April 8th in their books and
suggested this is an opportunity to use this as a tool to educate as well as to
further establish relationships with Code Enforcement and area Schools with
student volunteers. At this point, Roy Wilson is the contact for the cleanup and
has organized Haldeman Creek to be listed as one of the designated area for Bay
Days. Steve Main recommended that an email blast to educate and recruit our
residents plus posting on the website ways to reach out to the creek residents.
d. New District Area Code Enforcement Supervisor: Introduction, Eric Short,
District Supervisor for Code Enforcement wanted to introduce himself and his
area investigator, Chris Harmon. The committee members had a lot of questions
regarding code violations and thanked Code Enforcement for their past efforts to
support the MSTU. Eric left business cards for further communication.
VIII. Next Meeting Date: March 7th, 2017
IX. Public Comments: No public comments
X. Advisory Committee General Communications: Steve Main's business has moved out
of the MSTU boundary and he no longer can remain on the advisory board, Roy
Wilson wanted to say how thankful he is for all Steve's contributions and
commitment to the MSTU for all these years.
