EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to reappoint one member to the Public Transit Advisory Committee.
OBJECTIVE: To reappoint one member to the Public Transit Advisory Committee, to a term expiring
on March 22, 2020.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Public Transit Advisory Committee was originally established as an ad hoc
committee on February 26, 2013, by Resolution No. 2013-50, to make recommendations to the Board of
County Commissioners in matters related to transit policies, issues, programs and plans to provide mass
transit services to the citizens of Collier County. On March 22, 2016, the BCC adopted Ordinance No.
2016-07, which converted the committee from an ad hoc to a regular advisory committee, and reduced the
membership from 9 to 7 members. Members of this committee shall include one representative designated
by the District School Board of Collier County and, if possible, include representatives from large
employers, health care related services, social services and transportation and planning professionals. At
least two representatives shall be passengers of the system. Terms are three years. A list of the current
membership is included in the backup.
There is currently a vacancy on this committee. The vacancy was advertised and an application was

In regard to the appointment of members to the Public Transit Advisory Committee, Section 2 -968 of the
Code of Laws states that “…an application from a principal or representative of a large employer who
resides outside of Collier County may be considered where the large employer is located within Collier
County boundaries.” Mr. Gavrelis is the General Manager for the Mercato, a large commercial center in
Collier County, but resides in Bonita Springs.
ATTENDANCE: During the time Mr. Gavrelis served on the Public Transit Ad Hoc Advisory
Committee, he had one excused absence. Attendance records are attached.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: That Mr. Gavrelis be reappointed to the Public Transit
Advisory Committee, as a Large Employer representative, to a three-year term which shall expire on
March 22, 2020. A recommendation memo is included in the backup.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Committee
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the reappointment.
