EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to extend Contract #12-5812 Fire Alarm, Sprinkler, Suppression, and
Extinguisher Testing; Inspection; Repair; Certification; Maintenance; and Installation with Cintas
Corporation No. 2 d/b/a Cintas Fire Protection for six months or until a new contract is awarded,
whichever is sooner, while public request for proposals are solicited.
OBJECTIVE: To continue receiving the existing services, as needed by County Divisions, for Fire
Alarm, Sprinkler, Suppression, and Extinguisher Testing; Inspection; Repair; Certification; Maintenance;
and Installation in order to protect the community, equipment, and facilities / buildings.
CONSIDERATIONS: The current Fire Alarm, Sprinkler, Suppression, and Extinguisher Testing;
Inspection; Repair; Certification; Maintenance; and Installation contract with Cintas Corporation No. 2
d/b/a Cintas Fire Protection dated December 11, 2012 covered an initial one year period commencing on
December 11, 2012. The contract was renewed for three one year periods in accordance with the terms of
the contract. On October 11, 2016 (BCC Meeting Agenda Item 16E3), the Board approved a three month
contract extension to allow the County to solicit public proposals, which expires on March 10, 2017.
County staff solicited proposals for a new contract, however, during the selection committee meeting, a
consensus was not reached and additional time is needed to reconvene the Committee and finalize
contracts. Staff requests the Board’s authorization to further extend the current Cintas Corporation No. 2
d/b/a Cintas Fire Protection contract for an additional six months (through September 10, 2017) or until
the new contract is awarded, whichever is sooner. This request is pursuant to the County’s Procurement
Ordinance Number 2013-69, as amended (Section 19D Contract Administration Contract Extension),
which provides, in part, that any extension that exceeds six months (cumulatively) shall be approved by
the Board of County Commissioners.
The extension will provide County staff the opportunity to complete the competitive solicitation process.
FISCAL IMPACT: The potential six (6) month extension of this contract will result in an additional
fiscal impact of approximately $190,000 which is already in existing budgets.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this
Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality, and requires majority
vote for Board approval.-SRT

County staff is in the process of soliciting public proposals for a new contract and would like to request
the Board’s authorization to extend the current Cintas Corporation No. 2 d/b/a Cintas Fire Protection
contract for an additional three months (through March 10, 2017) or until the new contract is awarded,
whichever is sooner. Any extension that exceeds six months (cumulatively) shall be approved by the
