P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, since 1983, the Harry Chapin food Bank of Southwest Florida
has served as the only food bank in Southwest Florida; and
WHEREAS, for the past 32 years the Harry Chapin Food Bank has
partnered with over 150 agencies to provide direct services to
those in need and has provided food for more than 30,000
individuals each month; and
WHEREAS, the United Way of Collier County and the Harry Chapin Food
Bank have come together to collect non-perishable foods to
help the hungry in Collier County; and
WHEREAS, on February 19, 2017, Collier Area Transit has joined the
United Way of Collier County, Publix, and Harry Chapin Food
Bank to “Stuff the Bus” with non-perishable foods to replenish
the local food bank to feed the hungry in Collier County; and
WHEREAS, the synergy among county government, commercial entities,
and non- profit agencies to strengthen community ties and
improve the quality of life for the less fortunate citizens of
Collier County deserves due acknowledgement; and
WHEREAS, in view of the outstanding, selfless efforts of Collier Area
Transit, Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, Publix,
and the United Way to feed the hungry of Collier County
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County
Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that February 19,
2017 be designated as
STUFF THE BUS DAY IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 14th Day of February, 2017
