EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommend approval of Tourist Development Tax Category “B” funding to support the ISPS
Softball event up to $3,500 and make a finding that these expenditures promote tourism.

OBJECTIVE: Recommend approval funding support for February 2017 softball event.
CONSIDERATIONS: Collier County is scheduled to host the following two day event February 4 -5,
2017. The Tourism Division Sports Marketing Team has worked with the event promoter to maintain this
event in our community. The projected hosting costs are based on our past experience with similar events.
The Tourism Division proposes to reimburse the event promoter for the field rental fees and to pay Par ks
& Recreation for event staff time to support the event. Field rental and event assistance are authorized
expenditures for the BCC approved sports assistance program. Funding for these events is subject to
Board approval.
ISPS Super Bowl Bash will take place February 4-5, 2017 at North Collier Regional Park. The event
promoter estimates over 100 athletes and 100 room nights. The event promoter will pay Parks and
Recreation for the field rental fees and will be reimbursed based on the post event reports showing hotel
room nights, number of participants and spending by the participants and fans up to a total cost of
$2,000.00. The Tourism Division will reimburse Parks and Recreation for event staff overtime costs up to
$1,500.00, up to a total of $3,500.00.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funding of up to $3,500.00 for this event is included in the BCC approved FY 17
Tourism Division budget in Fund 184 for Sports Marketing Event support.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact to the Growth Management Plan from this
action.
ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDATION: The Tourist Development Council will review this
item at its regularly scheduled meeting on January 23, 2017 and the recommendation will be provided to
the BCC on the change sheet for the January 24, 2017 meeting.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires majority vote
for approval. - CMG
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves Tourist Development Tax
Category “B” funding to support the ISPS Softball event up to $3,500.00 and make a finding that these
expenditures promote tourism.
