Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jaskiewicz at 3:00 p.m.
Jerry Sanford led us in the pledge of Allegiance.
Roll call conducted. There were no minutes to approve as there was no quorum
present at the July 20th, 2016 meeting.
No old business to discuss.
No Threat Update to report.
New Business
Mike Shaw will be the interim Secretary as Jerry Sanford has retired. A new secretary
will be decided upon from the current committee members.
Emergency Management Update.
Rick Zyvoloski reports that we anticipate a lot of rain with the approaching Tropical
Storm Matthew. The Gulf and the Caribbean waters are very warm which will feed the
storm. The next Local Mitigation Strategy meeting is October 21st in the Library. Two
Sky Warn classes for the Medical Reserve Corps will be held on November 14th, 2016.
Training & Exercise
Mike Shaw reports that there will be an exercise at Naples Airport on Dec 14. A course
on Community Healthcare Planning and Response to Disasters (MGT-409) will be
offered October 26-27 at the EOC from 8:30 am to 5 pm. An ICS 300 class will be
offered on November 15 to 17th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the EOC. ICS Overview
courses will be given January 5th and 12th, 2017 at the EOC.
Individual Reports
Barry Gerenstein reports that he is working with CERT groups in Fiddler's Creek and
Island Walk. He showed an article from the Naples Daily News written by North Collier
Fire Commissioner Margaret Hansen regarding the CERT program that is available to
citizens of our County.
Jerry Sanford reported that he attended the Florida CERT conference in Daytona
Beach in August in which he taught a class entitled "CERT and the MEDIA". The Florida
CERT Association is planning a Disaster Drill on Saturday, November 12th. All CERT
teams are invited.
Jerry was happy to report that the Freedom Memorial was finally completed and a
dedication ceremony was held at the Memorial on Friday, September 9th followed by
a similar ceremony on Sunday September 11th. Both ceremonies had large amount of
people attending. The North Collier Fire District began a new CERT class on September
12th with 18 new students.
Dan Summers reports that FEMA has stated that all buildings used by first responders
should be maintaining the proper insurance. If by 2018 the buildings are not properly
insured, severe penalties can be imposed. Kathleen Marr from the DOH was able to
secure 800 radios for all hospital command centers. The CCEOC was on standby during
the Pasco County Hospital fire. Ms. Kristi Nadler is leaving the EOC and has accepted a
job with the Lee County EOC. She will be greatly missed by all.
Al Goodall reports that the Red Cross is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Matthew in
the Atlantic. On October 5th, Red Cross volunteers along with the North Collier CERT
team began canvasing many streets in the Naples Park Community for people that
need Smoke Detectors.
Lee Henderson reports that the Civil Air Patrol fly's twice a month and has
participated in an exercise entitled "Fertile Keynote". Both CAP planes are back in the
County now. They also fly out to Cuba and along our coast. His snowbird members are
slowly returning.
Chairman Jaskiewicz reports that in conjunction with the Sheriff's office, a Run, Hide
and Fight presentation was presented to the residents of Marco Island.
Adrian Corujo reports that the MRC continues to offer Zika training.
Recognition-Jerry Sanford. Chairman Jaskiewicz presented Jerry with a gift from all
of the Citizen Corps members for his years of serving on Citizen Corps.Jerry said it
has been a pleasure to serve and was honored to be a part of the Citizen Corps. He
wished everyone much luck and continued success.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 16th at 3:00 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned 3:40 p.m.
