NOTES: Children' s Services Council Meeting April 2, 1993
I & R Status and Suggestions.
Currently, the I & R is a structured program with data beneficial
to both the consumer and service provider. A four-report
packet is available to the agencies; a consumer directory has
yet to be designed.
The future of the I & R is dependent upon direction by the
Council:
1 . Should the Council remain active and sufficiently funded, as
an independent district, the community (consumers and service
providers) would begin to benefit from the program.
2 . Should the Council determine to be passive with insufficient
funds and meet every 3 months, it is suggested consideration be
given to the following alternatives:
a. Release a master copy of the 4-report packet to several
interested agencies, who would print out several copies, and then
loan a copy to another person for print out and soon the
information would filter out among the providers. The negative
aspects of this are: the consumer would not benefit from the data
and no one would be responsible for its maintenance which is a
necessary ingredient to the success of any I & R. The I & R
would slowly disintegrate.
b. Release the data to a well-established service provider who
would accept full responsibility for the I & R program. The hard
part, gathering and structuring the data has been accomplished,
handling of consumer inquiries will grow, and maintainance of
data will be a matter of regular follow-up.
As it is now, the I & R has just been given birth; hopefully,
it will be allowed to grow to its full stature.
