AGENDA APPROVAL
Dr. Trecker motioned, Mr. Streckenbein seconded to approve the agenda as
amended with the addition of a discussion item "Recycled water" as item #11a and a
discussion item "Assessing blue tilapia populations" as item #11b. The motion
carried unanimously.
APPROVAL OF 02/22/16 MEETING MINUTES
rMr. Streckenbein motioned, Dr. Trecker seconded to approve the 02/22/16 meeting
minutes as amended. The motion carried unanimously.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS
None
DEVELOPMENT OF BRIEF SIMPLE FERTILIZING GUIDELINES FOR RESIDENTS
Mr. Cravens reported on resident requests he has received for fertilizing guidelines. Dr.
Trecker stated that"best management practices"provides general guidelines. By committee
consensus it was not deemed possible to develop one guideline as soil differs among Pelican Bay
communities. Mr. Bolick suggested that individual communities conduct soil sample testing for
nutrient levels. Staff will look into the cost of soil sampling by University Extension Services.
LITTORAL PLANTINGS FOR 2016
Mr. Bolick reported that the $14,000 littoral planting project in 25 lakes has been
completed.
PLANNED AERATION INSTALLATION FOR 2016
Mr. Bolick reported that Aquagenix has been chosen as the low bid contractor for the
2016 aeration project. Once the Board of County Commissioners has approved the contract, the
project will begin, estimated to be in mid-June. Aerators will be installed in eight lakes.
STATUS ON SEDIMENT TESTING
Ms. Jacob reported that the sediment testing is complete, results will be provided to Earth
Tech within two weeks, and a report will be provided to the PBSD by Earth Tech within an
additional week. Test results will include levels of copper, phosphorus, and sediment depth.
PLANS FOR LAKE BANK REPAIR
Mr. Dorrill reported that the committee will be provided a report on the surveys of the ten
lakes with the most severe lake bank erosion next month. The budget for FY16 lake bank repair
is $75,000. Mr. Dorrill reported that the installation of additional riprap along the north berm is
a competing project for these funds.
UPDATED READINGS OF EFFECTIVENESS OF FISH, PEROXIDE,AND BACTERIA
IN TEST LAKES
Mr. Bolick reported the following updates: (1)peroxide in conjunction with hydrothol
appears to be effective in reducing levels of algae, (2) blue tilapia appears to be effective in algae
2
Pelican Bay Services Division Water Management Committee Meeting

reduction in the lake by the Community Center, but not as effective in the Ridgewood lake, and
(3)bacteria is still undergoing testing as its introduction requires a longer term study.
RECYCLED WATER
Dr. Trecker commented that the state of Florida has high nutrient level standards for
recycled water, for which Collier County is compliant. He stated that methods to reduce nutrient
levels are extremely expensive.
ASSESSING BLUE TILAPIA POPULATIONS
Mr. Cravens requested that staff explore methods and costs to determine the current
population of blue tilapia in the two lakes where they were installed to combat algae.
MR. DORRILL REPORTED ON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE CLAM
BAY DREDGING PROJECT.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 1:56 p.m.

OA ONT LAKE COPPER IN WATER AND SEDIMENT
Lake Water 7.6 mg/kg copper
Sediment \\ 15,108 mg/kg copper \ \ j
2000x more copper in sediment than in lake water!
PRELIMINARY CONCLUSIONS
• Nearly all of lake copper (99.9%) is in the sediment.
• The remaining soluble copper(from equilibrium with sediment
copper) is not causing problems in Clam Bay, where soluble copper
levels remain low.
• Sediment levels in most lakes tested are very low (1-4%). Exceptions
are Lakes 2-9 (25%) and 2-12 (16%), which warrant future tracking.
