PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Collier County has been participating in the National Flood Insurance Program's Community Rating System since October 1992; and, WHEREAS, The CRS Program is administered with the goal to reduce flood losses, facilitate accurate insurance ratings and promote awareness of flood insurance. Participation means Collier County goes beyond the minimum floodplain management requirements to develop extra measures to provide protection from flooding; and, WHEREAS, The benefits of participating in this program include lower cost flood insurance rates, increased opportunities to learn about risk, evaluate individual vulnerabilities and take action to protect homes and businesses; and, WHEREAS, The CRS rating scale is from 10 to 1, with 1 being the highest rating. Communities must be in full compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program and must rectify its rating each year. There are .17 activities in the calculation, including regulation of development and public outreach; and, WHEREAS, Collier County improved its CRS rating from a Class 6 to a Class 5 in 2015. The new rating gives property owners a 25 percent discount on flood insurance premiums for regular policies in the Special Flood Hazard Area and a 10 percent discount for regular policies outside the SFHA; and, WHEREAS, As a Class 5 community, policy holders save an additional$1.5 million, which brings the County's total savings to $7.8 million for the more than 70,000 flood insurance policies in Collier County. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Collier County Board of County Commissioners would like to honor those employees and committee involved in ensuring Collier County received the Class 5 rating for their hard work. Those employees are: Howard Critchfield, William Lang, Caroline Cilek, Kathy Badger, Bethany Mitchell, Matt McLean, Robert Wiley, Rick Zyvoloski, Jamie French, Travis Gossard, Jonathan Walsh, Bob Garee, Mike Dumais, Laura Gibson, Gary McA/pin, and the Collier County Floodplain Management Planning Committee.
