PARAB Minutes 08/19/1998 e PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD August 19, 1998 Minutes Golden Gate Community Center 4701 Golden Gate Parkway,Naples, Florida PRESENT: Joseph Zaks, Chairperson Daphnie Bercher, Vice Chairperson Timothy Blackford Karin English John Grice Edward "Ski" Olesky ABSENT: Gil Mueller Murdo Smith, Recreation Manager ALSO PRESENT: Marla Ramsey, Director John Dunnuck, Operations Coordinator Jacquie Hart, Secretary II Louise Hasse Mayor Sammy Hamilton, Everglades City Brenda Hamilton Laura Roys, Conservancy Ellen Gard,TV 10 I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 2:10 p.m. II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG III. INVOCATION: by Jacquie Hart Iv. INTRODUCTION: Chairman Zaks welcomed Ms. Karin English as a member of the advisory board. v. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: June 24, 1998 meeting. Motion by John Grice to approve the June 24, 1998 minutes. Seconded by Timothy Blackford. Passed 6/0. No meeting held in July. VI. AWARD PRESENTATION - Vice Chair Daphnie Bercher presented Chuck Human with the attitude award. C Staff was researching other counties with the same concepts. Ms. Ramsey stated that originally she was under the impression that the Landfill would be totally closed but one cell will be open with over 300 dump trucks trips per day at the location. Ms. Ramsey will go before the Board of County Commissioners on September 22, 1998 with a conceptual proposal not to sell the 312 acreage. No recommendation is needed at this time. d. Water Play Park at Vineyards - Ms. Ramsey stated that the water play area will be open by Labor Day September 7, 1998. The project cost approximately $80,000. e. City of Marco Island - Chairman Zaks would like to express that he was upset at the Board of County Commissioners because he did not like the way the Marco City was given Marco Island parks. Chairman Zaks stated that the county just gave away the parks to the City of Marco Island. This was not brought before the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. f. Private Citizen Compliment - Ms. Bercher inquired where was Mr. Gary Franco because she got a call from a citizen who thought that Mr. Franco was a "god send." The citizen had some problem at Max Hasse Park and Mr. Franco responded and handled the matter. Ms. Ramsey indicated that Mr. Franco was out on administrative leave. IX. Old Business g. Tigertail Signs - Ms. Ramsey stated that she is having problems finding buoys that would be placed into water. X. Monthly Report h. June Monthly Report- No Discussion. i. BCC Recap - Chairman Zaks inquired as why was the contract for Barefoot Beach concession terminated. Ms. Ramsey stated that it was at the concessionaires request because they were not making enough money. j. Adopt-A-Park Report: Mr. Blackford did not report on his parks. 4 • Mr. Blackford suggested that an outside restroom be installed for children that are using the Vineyard Community Park when it is closed on Sundays or holidays. Ms. Ramsey stated that the community center is open Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 9:00 p.m.; on Saturdays 9:00 to 5:00 p.m.; and is open on Sundays in the morning for church. k. Regional Park Land - The Department is still researching land. 1. Royal Palm Jazz Festival - The Jazz festival is scheduled for the weekend of August 22, 1998. All PARAB member are invited. VIP passes and invitations have been sent already. m. PARAB Meeting Schedule - Next meeting is scheduled at the Max Hasse Community Park. VIII.ADJOURNMENT Motion by Chairman to adjourn.
