Citizen Corps Advisory Minutes 01/20/2016 Collier County Citizen Corp. Committee January 20, 2016 Voting members present: Al Goodall, American Red Cross Walt Jaskiewicz, Coast Guard Aux. Barry Gerenstein, C.E.R.T. Jerry Sanford, Fire Chief's Association Jose Carrillo, CCSO Lee Henderson, Civil Air Patrol Expert Consultant Present: Dan Summers, CCEM Mike Shaw, CCEM Kristi Nadler, CCEM Rick Zyvoloski, CCEM Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jaskiewicz at 3:00 p.m. Rick Zyvoloski led us in the pledge of allegiance. Roll call conducted. Al Goodall made a motion to accept the previous minutes. The motion was seconded by Barry Gerenstein. Threat Update. CCSO rep Jose Carrillo reports that there are no local threats at this time. The seasonal traffic is on the increase. No old business to discuss. Chairman Jaskiewicz reports that he recently met with Collier County EOC to get information on the EMAP program. Collier County has not been accredited yet. As an advisory committee that provides feedback and input to the Emergency Management program,to achieve accreditation we must take a vote by our body. There are 64 individual requirements that the community has to qualify for. To get compliance we need input from all stakeholders. All of our members are part of this group of stakeholders. The overall Emergency Management program cannot get accredited unless we all buy in and assist or support.Accreditation is on a five year cycle,with annual reports required to be provided to the EMAP. Dan Summers reported on the bad weather that hit Naples this past Saturday night into Sunday morning with no major damage reported. Chief Sapp from Greater Naples Fire provided vital information into the EOC to Dan. 90 MPH winds were reported in sections of the county. Cold weather then set in. No activation of the EOC was made after consulting with the BCC. Mike Shaw reports that planning for training and exercises will be sent out for the next three years. In April, a table top exercise for schools and colleges will be discussed.A mass casualty pediatric drill will take place in May. Rick Zyvoloski reports that another round of El/Nino begins next Wednesday. The term "Meteotsunami" was explained.6 feet of surge could occur over normal tides. It is rare that it could happen. Marco Island has a new flood plain manager. The next meeting of the LMS is April 15th at 9:30 a.m. in the library. Skywarn training class will be given on February 27th at 10:00 a.m. in the library. Jose Carrillo reports that the Sheriff's office is conducting Active Shooter Training to their Lieutenants in 6 districts. Individual Reports Chairman Jaskiewicz reports that he has given a number of safe boating courses prior to the recent storm and a few did not heed the information. He retrieved a number of items from canals after the storm. Jerry Sanford reported on the progress of the Freedom Memorial. The granite is being installed on the flag with completion late this spring. The Collier County Honor Flight is planning on five missions this year. He started a new CERT class recently. Al Goodall reported that the Red Cross responded to Cape Coral after the last storm. Lee Henderson reports that the Civil Air Patrol always flies to assist other agencies. They conducted sea air rescue exercises recently. The patrols are down to 2 patrols a week. The pilots pay their own cost. Barry Gerenstein reports that he met with Greater Naples Fire Chief Schuldt and he told Barry that he will attempt to bring his Cert team back up to speed. The Isle of Capri Cert team wants to get back in the picture. The Chairman asked Barry why these other teams have gone away. Barry responded that the former cert members in the fire district retired and were never replaced. Cost is also a major factor.
