Ochopee FC Advisory Committee Minutes 01/11/2016 OCHOPEE FIRE CONTROL ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES FOR JANUARY 11, 2016 CALL TO ORDER: Roll Call of Attendees Caleb Morris,Assistant Chief, Ochopee Fire Control District Tony Davis, Chairman, Port of the Islands Ron Gilbert,Advisory Committee Member, Port of the Islands James Morris, Advisory Committee Member, Port of the Islands Robert Craig,Advisory Committee Member, Port of the Islands Jeannie Kungle, Guest Additions and Deletions to Agenda No additions or deletions to the Agenda. Approval of Agenda A motion was made to approve the agenda as written it was seconded and passed. Approval of Minutes of the Regular Meeting of December 14, 2015 A motion was made to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of 12-14-15 it was seconded and passed. REPORTS: Chief's Report Budget Chief Morris—The budget is attached and there are no issues. Chief Morris-The Firefighters line of duty deaths for the year 2015 is 86 and there were 10 in the month of December. Page 1 Awards, Recognitions &Certifications Chief Morris- Nothing significant but we wrapped up a lot of projects including his office. All of the projects were done by Ochopee Personnel and he felt they did a fine job of completing them. OPERATIONS REPORT: There were 75 calls for the month of December and a total of 815 for 2015. The committee members asked if there is any research being done in regards to why the call load has increased by 30%as per an e-mail that was circulated to the committee members by Chief McLaughlin. Ron Gilbert—Chief McLaughlin stated that there had been a universal increase over the whole County. Chief Morris—It has increased all over there are a lot more people moving around. Ron Gilbert-There seemed to be more people here during the summer time. Chief Morris—He feels the increase is County wide. Chief Morris- No out of District or Boat Rescue calls. There were 25 incidents on 1-75; 16 vehicle accidents, 7 emergency medicals, 1 vehicle fire and 1 brush fire. Chief Morris-There were four permitted inspections and no fire investigations. OLD BUSINESS: Working on I-75 Station Internet Scheduled for January Chief Morris—We are moving forward in regards to the Internet service at the 1-75 station there will be a meeting in regards to the installation. Flag Pole at Station 60 Chief Morris—The flag pole at station 60 is in dire need of replacement and there are plans to do that this year. Page 2 Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant for Fiscal year 2016 Passed Chief Morris—The Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant for Fiscal Year 2016 was approved by the board of county commissioners. The grant money will assist with the purchase of bunker gear without depleting the Ochopee budget. Hold Harmless Agreement Passed Chief Morris—The Hold Harmless Agreement was approved by the Board of County Commissioners and sent to Greater Naples Fire District for signature. One of the Fire Departments has not signed once that happens and the Chairman of the board of county commissioners signs then the money will be distributed. District I Service Agreement Chief Morris—The District I Service Agreement is not yet completed he feels it will not have a big affect on the Ochopee Fire Control District. The only difference is that Greater Naples Fire District will be paying us our share. Port of the Islands Hotel Chief Morris—He has not heard anything new. They did meet with the new owners and discussed doing training prior to the building being demolished. The new owner was given the necessary paperwork to be processed in order for the department to do the training. The hazardous materials have to be removed from the building prior to the training event. Everglades City Advisory Committee Member Vacancy Chief Morris—He has a meeting at 11AM tomorrow morning with Mayor Hamilton and he will bring up the fact that he needs to appoint a new representative from Everglades City to the Ochopee Advisory Committee. The Mayor has already been informed that he has to appoint a new committee member. NEW BUSINESS No new business. Page 3 PUBLIC COMMENT Jeannie Kungle—There is going to be an appreciation party at the water plant for The Fire Department and the Collier County Sheriff's Office personnel the event tentatively is to take place on 2-19-16 from 12PM to 2PM she will have the rest of the details soon and will send out a news letter about the event. This party is just to say thank you to everyone. The committee members feel this is a good way for the Fire and Sheriff's Office personnel to meet the residents of the community.
