Ms . Grace Underwood, Administrative Aide
Collier County Commission
3301 Tamiami Trail East
Naples , Florida 33962
Dear Ms. Underwood,
This letter is written in response to a plea in the
Naples Daily News for volunteers to serve the community.
May I offer to serve in a volunteer capacity on the
Parks and Recreation Advisory Baard from the North Naples
District.
I have been a Collier County resident for 14 years presently
living in the unincorporated area of North Naples at the
above address.
I have served as a volunteer in this community since first
arriving in the Naples area, and always felt you must give
to your community whatever y _ talents you may have.
Specifically, thirteen years ago my husband and I worked
with the infant organization YMCA to form a girls softball
league in conjunction with the parks & recreation Dept.
We then coached a team for the league.
I volunteered with the Red Cross in Naples setting up,
and training the Volunteens --candy stripe girls--for the
Naples Community Hospital. I headed that program for four
years.
I have always been sports and exercise oriented and am a
bird watcher in my spare time:
In 1973 we built the Imperial Golf Club (north Naples area)
and I must admit golf is my favorite form of exercise. My
youngest daughter, Mary Beth, is now a professional golfer
on the tour.
I voted recently for the Parks & Recreation bond issue and
am delighted to support the County in expanding this area of
service to the residents. Parks for all ages tell a great
deal about any community.
Recently I was instrumental in obtaining a healthy financial
assist to Rollie Rice in funds to help improve a beach access
walkway at Gulfshore Blvd North and Seagate Drive.
I have the time and interest to give to the county and I would
consider it a privilege to serve on the Parks & Recreation
Advisory Board as a representative of the North Naples District.
Humbly submitted,
-t

Mrs. Grace Underwood
Administrative Aide
Collier County Commission
3301 Tamiami Trail East
Naples, Fla. 33962-4978
Dear. Mrs. Underwood:
I would like to be considered for one of the vacancies on the Parks
and Recreation Advisory Board.
I have lived in Naples since 1976 during which time I have been
active in community affairs.
I was on the Seagate Beach Club, Inc. , board of directors for
two years and served one year as secretary.
I am immediate past commodore of the Gulf Coast Sailing Club and
have been on the board for more than two. years.
I have been actively involved with the Naples Michelob Regatta
since its inception including organizing the Force 5 Sailing
Class World Championships the first year and serving as vice
chairman last year.
My first two years in Naples I worked as wire editor for the
Naples Daily News. Since then I have been actively engaged in
real estate.
I am 36 years old, married and I have two children a boy two
and one-half years old and a girl 7 and one-half years old.
I have long realized that parks are a vital part of any community.
As a parent, I recognize the need for places for our children to
be able to play in a safe, controlled area. As a member of the real
estate profession, I realize the value of well-run, carefully planned
parks and recreation facilities.

Attn: Grace Underwood - Administrative Aide.
As a applicant from East Naples, consideration is requested for my appoint-
ment to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board.
I was privileged to serve under Mr. Rollie Rice and Mr. Vince Murphy on the
East Naples Site Selection Committee, and worked very closely with other
members of that advisory group during all of our meetings.
Much of my attention was focused on Site preparation costs - particularly
the substantial cost involved in fill material required to bring the Site
up to designed elevation. I also worked very closely with Shade Jones, Prin-
\ cipal of Lely High School, on the recommended layout of the park Site. This
illustration shows the proposed location of roads, community building, sport
fields and all related facilities. It is my understanding that this detailed
drawing is currently displayed in the Parks & Recreation office.
I enjoyed the above creative assignment very much, and would like to continue
this volunteer work.
A brief list of my qualifications is as follows -
B.S. Engineering - Michigan Technological University
State of Florida - 'Building Contractors License - No. CBC-004520
State of Florida - Wastewater Plant Operators License No. 31122
Graduate of Allstate Construction College - Certificate No. 3256
Graduate of Edison College - State of Florida, Dept. of
Environmental Regulation, Chemistry
Course No. CE-)49I.003
Edison College - Completed OSHA Course
Deltona Corp. - Appointed Director of Safety - Marco Island
Project.
Deltona Corp. - Supt of the Deltona Concrete Production
Facility - Many other engineering assignments.
