Minutes 08/10/1979 PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES OF August 10 , 1979 The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board held their monthly meeting on August 10 , 1979 at 8 : 30 A.M. on the 5th Floor of the Tower Building at the Collier County Courthouse Complex. The following members and staff were present : Chris Blunt Dave Johnson Dudley Goodlette Col. Kenneth Cavenah Rollie R. Rice , Director of Parks and Recreation CLAM PASS Mr. Rice and Jay Harmic, Environmental Consultant for the County, made a field trip to the portion of Clam Pass which Deltona would like to dedicate to the County. It is the recommendation from Dr. Harmic not to accept this parcel unless it already falls into Deltona' s permitted fill area. Dudley Goodlette made the motion to accept the recommendation of Jay Harmic and not to accept the parcel . Motion was seconded by Chairman Blunt and approved unanimously. DECISION OF DOUG McGOON' S DONATION OF LAND IN COPELAND This item was deferred from the meeting of July 13 , 1979 until more members were available for the vote. After a brief discussion it was the general consensus of the PARAB not to accept P the generous donation of Mr. Mc.Goon because of the following reasons : 1 . The land is under water for approximately 3 months . 2 . There is not an access to the property at this time . OLD BUSINESS A brief discussion was held on the referendum committee. `"° The secretary explained Mr. Henderlong of the Planning Department Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Minutes of August 10 , 1979 Page -2- was working on a letter to be sent to the BCC explaining what the the PARAB is planning to do and asking for their support. Chairman Blunt instructed the secretary to send a copy of the draft letter to the members prior to sending the letter to the BCC . He would like to get the approval of the PARAB and their input . NEW BUSINESS Chairman Blunt questioned Mr. Rice about the article in the paper concerning acreage at Marco for an additional ballfield. Chairman Blunt also questioned the possibilities of utilizing this agreage for not only baseball/softball but also soccer and football. The secretary was instructed to write a memo to the BCC questioning the possibility of this matter. Another subject discussed under new business was the matter of the County accepting parcels of land for parks without the approval of the PARAB first. It was the general consensus of the PARAB that a letter be written to the BCC asking if any parcels that are to be donated to the BCC for parks use, that the PARAB review the proposal and see if it complies with the Comprehensive PLan. If the proposal does not comply with the Plan, we will recommend not to accept the parcel. The Secretary was also instructed to draft a letter to the BCC stating their ideas on this matter and send a draft to the members for their input and approval .
