Minutes 06/08/1979 PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD AN.* MINUTES OF June 8 , 1979 Irmo The Collier County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board held their monthly meeting on June 8 , 1979 at 9 :00 A.M. in Building F 5th Floor, Collier County Courthouse Complex. The following members were present : Chris Blunt John Iamurri Dudley Goodlette Anne Goodnight Rollie R. Rice, Director of Parks and Recreation APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEE FOR PARK REFERENDUM Ex-mayor Harry Heinemann, Preb Stayer and April Boucher were at the meeting at the request of the Chairman to receive explanations of duties of the proposed referendum. The PARAB lbw is looking for prominent people in the area to sale the referendum to the people . The referendum would include obtaining funds for the parks included in the Comprehensive Plan. Mr. Henderlong of the Planning Department presented to Mr. Heinemann, Mr. Stayer and Ms . Boucher the following items : 1. The Broward County Final Report on the referendum they passed successfully. 2 . Goals , Objective and Standards for the Committee to study and consider. 3 . Information on the Capital Improvement Program and explaining the Program. 4. Various correspondence from Commissioners . Mr. Henderlong suggested Mr. Heinemann, Mr. Stayer and Ms . Boucher take this material home, study it and then decide if they want to be a part of this Committee . (Added Item to Agenda) GULFVIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL - RENOVATION - CITY OF NAPLES-RANDY DAVIS Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Minutes of June 8 , 1979 Page 2 Mr. Randy Davis , Director of the City of Naples Recreation Department was at the meeting to speak to the PARAB about the possibilities of the City and County joining their efforts and resources to rejuvenate Gulfview Middle School ballfield which is located on school property in the City limits . This ballfield could be used by the adult and youth softball teams . Mr . Davis stated the City Parks Department is limited in park space and this is a possible solution. Maintenance and scheduling responsibilities would have to be decided upon by both Departments . The PARAB told Mr . Davis no recommendations are being made by the Board to build any new construction on school property. The PARAB sympathized with the City ' s lack of recreation facilities , but the County is having the same problem. However, the PARAB will take this offer under advisement and let the City Parks Department know of their decision. DISCUSSION AND DECISION ON BALLFIELD CONSTRUCTION AT TOMMIE BARFIELD Chairman Blunt directed the secretary to draft a letter to Mr. Scuderi in reference to his request for the County to build an additional ballfield for Little League . This letter should state that at this time the PARAB would not recommend to the BCC the construction of this ballfield. DECISION OF PROPOSAL FOR SITE - COAST GUARD AUXILIARY STATION This item was withdrawn by Col . Cavenah. LETTER TO SCHOOL BOARD REQUESTING IMMOKALEE LAND SWAP BE PLACED ON AGENDA AND PARKS BOARD MEMBERS TO BE PRESENT FOR DISCUSSION. A letter was wrote to the School Board requesting the Immokalee land swap be placed on the Agenda of June 7th. This swap is still l`""" in limbo and no final plans have been determined. Mr. Rice Parks. and Recreation Advisory Board Minutes of June 8, 1979 Page -3- presented to the PARAB the three alternatives Mr. Quinby outline for the School Board: 1 . Refuse the swap 2. Approve the swap 3 . Reduce the size of the swap from 23 acres to 9 acres . After some discussion, it was decided by the PARAB that an area such as Immokalee needs a community park. A commonity park can only be achieved by utilizing the 23 acres adjacent to the Immokalee High School . If the size of the park was reduced to 9 acres , the 1 community center and pool facilities would have to be eliminated. Chairman Blunt instructed the secretary to wrtie a letter to Mr. Quinby stating the above and to urge the School Board to make . a decision on the land swap as soon as possible . QUITCLAIM DEED TO CLAM PASS - TIGER TAIL BEACH PARK This item was tabled by Mr. Rice . FIELD TRIP TO PARK SITE AT COPELAND - COORDINATE DATE AND TIRE two Mr. Doug McGoon has offered 10 acres to the County at Copeland for a park site . The PARAB needs to arrange a field trip to this property and make a recommendation to the BCC . Mr. Rice was instructed to contact Mr. McGoon and arrange a date and time to see this property.
