Minutes 01/12/1979 PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES OF JANUARY 12 , 1979 .t m The Collier County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board held a monthly meeting on January 12 , 1979 at 8 : 30 A.M. in Building F , 5th Floor . The following members were present : Chris Blunt Dave Johnson Col . Kenneth Cavenah John Iamurri Rollie R. Rice , Director of Parks and Recreation Pat Cookson, Recording Secretary ABSENT : Bobby Fowler Dudley Goodlette , excused INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBER Mr . Rice introdued Mr . John Iamurri , the new member serving as an alternate to the PARAB . Mr . Blunt welcomed him to the Board and stated that with his involvement in recreation he was sure to be an asset to the PARAB . APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion was made by Dave Johnson to approve the minutes of December ' s meeting . Motion seconded by Col . Cavenah and approved unanimously . SIX YEAR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM Mr . Rice would like the input of the PARAB of any items which might qualify as Capital Improvement. The Comprehensive Plan calls for three (3) community parks and seventeen (17) neighborhood parks in the next six years . To alleviate such ammo an enormous Capital Improvement Program with an astronomical Iwo amount of money , the Parks Department decided to go with just the three (3) community parks and improve the existing Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting Minutes of January 12 , 1979 Page -2- neighborhood sites we now have . The three (3) community parks are North Naples , East Naples and Immokalee . We do not have a site in East NAples yet, but the County is in the process of working with various organizations for a land donation . The County has a site designated in Immokalee (agreage adjacent to the Immokalee High School) and property in North Naples (Pelican Bay Development) . There is a possibility of obtaining property from GAC -- a twenty-seven (27) acre tract and an eight (8) acre tract adjacent to the Golden Gate Community Center . This is the fourth Capital Improvement Program the Parks Department has submitted . The Department is not a top priority such as roads and water , but is slowly working towards the top of the list. The PARAB would like to be advised of the the time the Capital Improvement Program will be placed on the BCC Agenda . TIGER TAIL STATUS REPORT A consulting engineering firm, Stanley Hole & Assoc . , is in the process of preparing the construction plans and specifications for Tiger Tail Beach Park. The latest word from Tallahassee on our grant for Tiger Tail is we siould be receiving the money in June of 1979 . At that time, the project will go out for bid . BAYVIEW PARK STATUS The County now owns Bayview Park and we hope that the Florida BOating Improvement Program Grant will cover the cost of redeveloping the park . A consulting engineer is in the process of preparing the construction plans and specifications for Bayview Park . If the cost is too much , the County might Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting Minutes of January 12 , 1979 Page -3- have to use matching funds . mirmig REPORT ON PARK MAINTENANCE AND COSTS BREAKDOWN ON RECREATION ACTIVITIES Mr . Rice presented to the PARAB a report on Park Maintenance and the costs breakdown of recreation activities . The report explains the functions of the Parks and Recreation Department . The PARAB complimented Mr . Rice on the informative report and that it was quite helpful and answered a lot of questions . There being no further business , the meeting adjourned at 10 : 15 A .M .
