Minutes 12/12/1975 PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
MINUTES OF
December 12 ,1975
The Collier County Parks and Recreation Board held its
monthly meeting on December 12 , 1975 at 9 :00 A.M. at the Collier
County Courthouse Complex. The following members were present :
Steve Smith - Chairman
Curt Rindy
Paul Bogatko
Elton Townsend
Margaret DeBAun
Rollie R. Rice, Director of Parks and Recreation
Murdo Smith, Assistant Director of Parks and Rec.
Pat Cookson, Recording Secretary
All members had not received copies of the minutes of last
month' s meeting, therefore they postponed approval until next
meeting.
Some discussion was held concerning the field trip to
the 273 acres in East Naples . The general consensus of the
Board was that the property is high and dry and a good area for a
community type park and a municipal golf course.
The Board invited Dale Cunningham, County Manager to this
meeting to get some ideas what the Parks Program can expect in relation
to money, land acquisition or park development in the next couple
years . Mr. Cunningham statelthat there is no money for park
development as of now. He suggested setting up a Capital Improvement
program for parks and sell it to the public and get them to
back a special millage for the purpose of Capital Improvements .
Mr. Stith told Mr. ' Cunningham that the Board had put
together a Capital Improvement together the last two years and that
the Board had also worked with the Planning Department outling

different areas for various parks . Mr. Rice explained to Mr.
Cunningham and the Board that he is working with the PLanning
Department on a Comprehensive plan for recreation for the County.
Some discussion was held on various ways of financing the Capital
Program - taxes , grants or donations . Mr. Smith thanked Mr .
Cunningham for coming to the meeting and the information he
supplied to the Board.
Mr. Rice presented to the Board a list of items for the
Six Year Capital Improvement Program.
Mr. Rindy gave a brief report on the field trip to Bayview
Park with members of the City Parks Board. One of the questions
the City raised is the possibility of another boat ramp . They
did not feel that one boat ramp is sufficient . The City also
felt that instead of purchasing more property at Bayview the
property that is already part of the park should be developed.
Mr. Rindy asked that another member of the County Parks Board
be appointed to the Bayview Committee besides himself. Elton
Townsend volunteered his services .
Mr. Rice asked Mr. Bogatko about the Golden Gate Community
Center. Mr. Rice has been told that the County Parks Department
is to maintain this facility after it has been finished, and he
would like to know where exactly does the County stand with this
facility. Mr. Bogatko stated that he does not know of any
involvment between the County Parks Department and the Golden
Gate Community Center.

The next item on the Agenda is the status of Board members .
Mr. Rice presented to the Board the list of members and their
new expiration dates . Mr. Rice stated that there is to be a
representative from each District , which there is not. There
is double representation from District 2 and District 4, and no
representation from District 3 or 5 . Therefore, Mrs . DeBaun
will resign as of January 1976 and be replaced by a representative
from either District 3 or 5 .
Mr. Smith, on behalf of the Board, praised Mrs . DeBaun for
her excellent work and time given to the PArks Board. Mrs .
DeBaun was an original member. Mrs . DeBaun wished the Board
r the best of luck in their future endeavors .
